The topic says it all. I have an s5 that I want to remove the altenator pully from. I bought the dual pully from Rotary Inovations and want to put it on. Does anybody know how to get the stock one off? It really is being a pain in the ASS! Thanks.

But how doyou keep the pulley from moving?

I loosen it on the car with tension still on the belt. If you can't don't do it way use a strap wrench. Sears has them. There is a write up on my Webpage also. Any help needed let me know.

thats one of the nice things about an impact gun. it hits so hard that it doesn't spin.

Matt, all you need is a good impact gun. don't even remove the alternator from the car. O'reilly's has a big enough gun, that they'll do it for free. P.S. Daytona is good, and toga parties kick ass.

If you are using an impact you should be able to hold it by hand.

Dual Belt Alternator Pulley Installation How-To for FC3S 13B

( This is a great upgrade to increase belt surface area on the water pump pulley once the air pump is removed. )



Required Tools:



- 3/8 ratchet with 8, 10, 12 and 14mm sockets.

- 1/2 ratchet with 17 and 22mm sockets.

- 1/2 impact gun (air or electric)

Note: socket sizes may vary if the bolts have been replaced.



Parts and Costs:



- Dual belt alternator Pulley - $20.00

- 2 Gates 7315 belts (Any brand 31.5" belts will work) - $20.00



Labor Time:



- It took me 35 minutes from start to finish once I had all the tools out.



Installation Process:



1. Disconnect the negative post on your battery.

2. Use the 10mm socket to loosen the tensioning pulleys for the A/C compressor and power steering belts.

3. Use the 17 and 22mm sockets to loosen the pulleys themselves for the A/C compressor and power steering belts. Then remove both belts.

4. Use the 8mm socket to disconnect the charging lead from the top right of the alternator. Disconnect the white wiring plug from the left rear of the alternator.

5. Use the 12 and 14mm sockets to remove the two bolt holding the alternator in place on either side. Be sure not to lose the space from the left side bolt.



6. Remove the alternator.

7. Use the 22mm socket and impact gun to remove the pulley from the alternator. I used my foot to hold the old pulley from spinning when I zapped it with the impact. Seat the new pulley and again I used my foot to hold the pulley when I zapped it with the impact to tighten it.



8. I reinstalled the alternator by following the breakdown in reverse order. Once complete I double checked all my work, connected, checked the belt tensions and started the car. I tached it up a bit to see if the belts squeeled which would indicate they are to tight or loose. Mine worked fine. Here is a picture of the completed installation.

They did mine for free at Autozone, just took my pulley and alternator in and they had an impact wrench and clamping tool in the back... they said they keep the tools available because so many "OEM" alt's come in with the wrong pulley on them....
