Maybe you're better off putting a GM alt on your ford motor?

kevin.
Would that make it any easier? If I'm going to just get a new alternator, I might as well just get a new Ford one, since some people on the swap forum have experience with the newer stuff.

Look HereYou can use the 130 amp unit out of a v6 sable and very little mod to get it to fit the mount. Last summer put together a 85 mustang 5.0 5 speed convert for the oldest daughter. Pulled the little 45 amp external regulated unit and used the above found in a pick a part now the wipers A/C turn signals and headlights all work at once! Simple swap

Ok, I bought an internal regulator alternator from an '87 Couger. I've found a few wiring diagrams, hopefully I can make this work.

One thing to note. The more power your Alternator puts out the more HP it will rob from your motor.

Many years ago I had a 130AMP GM Style Alternator in my Toyota MR2. It wasn't until the case cracked and I went back to the stock Toyota Alternator that I realized how much power the thing was taking from the motor. VERY NOTICIABLE.

Right now I'm just trying to get the darn thing running! I'll worry about power later. It's a 2G alternator from what I've read. I noticed a lot of people with Fords upgrade to the 3G alternator for more output, so I'm guessing the 2G isn't going to be a huge power sucker.
