Of all the things I've lost, it's my mind that I miss the most.

Okay -- I've been reading and reading and reading about the well-known pulsation damper issue....

My car is an 88T2 -- bought it used in 1994, driven lightly, 79K miles total now. I've never had anything done with it other than routine stuff. So, after reading the many PD-related fire stories, my paranoia has set in, and I decided that I better inspect the PD pronto. After all, I don't want my beloved T2 catching on fire.

I looked at Baldy's write-up and pictures in the FAQ section (thank you, by the way!). A lot of stuff to take off, etc, etc, but hey -- grow a set and give it a shot. So tonight, I decided to scope out the job -- especially since I've got all the other Turbo crap that will have to get out of the way.

Step one -- get an overview...

So I start looking around to inspect the PD and figure out what I'm getting myself into. Well, off to a fine start... I can't find the PD. Okay -- I occasionally have moments like this where I look at a picture and my mild dyslexia takes over... I have been looking and looking, and I don't seem to see one.

I'm attaching (hopefully) a picture of where I think the PD should be based upon Baldy's FAQ pictures.

Is the PD elsewhere on the T2? Am I looking in the right spot? It almost looks like someone replaced the PD with a bolt, but I'm not sure. It certainly isn't anything new (post 1994) -- I would have known about that.

Thanks!

it is right under the upper intake manifold so you are going to have to take off your tmic and uim and then you will see it. i think you might be able to see it right behind the alternator.

its on the back of one of the fuel rails, on the firewall side, youll have to remove the TMIC and UIM to see it. removing those things arent too bad. you can rmove the UIM with the TB still attached ot make i a bit easier.

While the procedure isn't all that bad, I would have a hard time justifying going under there just to see if the PD was okay. If you're not smelling gas, I would let it ride.

I replaced the PD as part of a larger endeavor, namely removing the rats nest, doing the TB mod and adding larger secondary injectors when I installed the Haltech.

So, if you have a reason to pull the UIM, by all means replace the PD, otherwise, I would drive it, but be ready to act if you smell gas under the hood. Just my $.02.
