First off, let me ask: are you still running cats? If yeas, then why do you want to remove the air pump? If not, then we may proceed.

You will want to plug the hole coming out of the air box which has a hose connecting it to the air pump. Also, you will want a ACV block-off plate (available from RB or Mazdatrix). You can remove the muffler thingy under the air box, since it is for muffling the air coming out of the ACV which you can also remove once you have the blockoff plate.

I think you can remove the air pump mounting bracket too, but it's been a while, so check it out before you take my word on it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Good luck,

Yea he already cut his cats out!

Just like NOTA V6 you have to plug the hole coming out of the airbox and you can go ahead and 86 the mounting bnracket. Like I said before if you hear a belt noise you'll have to tight the alternator down a little and consider buying a new pulley in the near future.

Will removing the acv and placing the plate there do anything to an rx-7's performance or normal running conditions? And what is the point of it in the first place exactly? Cuz i was wondering about doing it my 88' gtu... i don't have cats or the pump. I just plugged the hole where the hose whent from the air pump to the acv.

No performance benifits at all. The performance is acheived with the removal of the cats. The air pump is no longer needed if there are no cats, so it cleans things up and reduces the vehicle's weight when it's removed. The block-off plate just makes it look cleaner than plugged holes on the side of your engine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Take care,

 yeah i figured out U HAVE TOO plug the hole where the ACV is bolted to. Cuz i tried just taking it off and unpluggin it. Well it wouldn't run. And i broke the seal/gasket plastic piece and snapped a bolt off in one of the holes. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif But i got it back on but it isn't a vacuum. I can hear this sucking sound and it smells. It idles about 200 rpms higher too, but thats about all i noticed. I just have to wait for the plate now.
