Just want to know if i need to plug, bridge, or break anything to get it off and keep car runnig???

NOTA V6 09-29-2001 02:26 PM

First off, let me ask: are you still running cats? If yeas, then why do you want to remove the air pump? If not, then we may proceed.

You will want to plug the hole coming out of the air box which has a hose connecting it to the air pump. Also, you will want a ACV block-off plate (available from RB or Mazdatrix). You can remove the muffler thingy under the air box, since it is for muffling the air coming out of the ACV which you can also remove once you have the blockoff plate.

I think you can remove the air pump mounting bracket too, but it's been a while, so check it out before you take my word on it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Good luck,

phinsup 09-29-2001 02:34 PM

Yea he already cut his cats out!

Just like NOTA V6 you have to plug the hole coming out of the airbox and you can go ahead and 86 the mounting bnracket. Like I said before if you hear a belt noise you'll have to tight the alternator down a little and consider buying a new pulley in the near future.

HAVE FUN!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Will removing the acv and placing the plate there do anything to an rx-7's performance or normal running conditions? And what is the point of it in the first place exactly? Cuz i was wondering about doing it my 88' gtu... i don't have cats or the pump. I just plugged the hole where the hose whent from the air pump to the acv.

NOTA V6 10-06-2001 12:52 AM

No performance benifits at all. The performance is acheived with the removal of the cats. The air pump is no longer needed if there are no cats, so it cleans things up and reduces the vehicle's weight when it's removed. The block-off plate just makes it look cleaner than plugged holes on the side of your engine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Take care,

Rotaryman88 10-06-2001 08:42 AM

They have all given a good enough response...I just thought I'd pop in...

RotaryBoy88 and Rotaryman88.....thats kinda funny....

1Revvin7 10-06-2001 05:47 PM

O thanks that clears that up....

RotaryBoy88 10-09-2001 07:17 PM

Calm Down Rotaryman88 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

1Revvin7 10-21-2001 03:55 PM

 yeah i figured out U HAVE TOO plug the hole where the ACV is bolted to. Cuz i tried just taking it off and unpluggin it. Well it wouldn't run. And i broke the seal/gasket plastic piece and snapped a bolt off in one of the holes. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif But i got it back on but it isn't a vacuum. I can hear this sucking sound and it smells. It idles about 200 rpms higher too, but thats about all i noticed. I just have to wait for the plate now.

1Revvin7 10-21-2001 03:58 PM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif Will i be hurting anything by driving my rx like that until i get the plate?????

NOTA V6 10-21-2001 04:06 PM

I'm surprised it runs that way at all.

If it's running, I don't think it should hurt anything. If you ordered from Mazdatrix, the plate should only take a couple of days to get there. I was pleasantly surprised to get mine in just a few days. In the mean time, I'd cut out a piece of sheet metal and bolt it over the hole to help your idle.

I busted one of my bolts off there too. I got some of that heat resistant silicone, and good it all up, THEN bolted it back on. It leaked a little bit with just the two bolts holding the plate in place.

Good luck!

RotaryBoy88 10-22-2001 03:00 AM

Update from me. I ripped off the air pump, unbolted the ACV and bought some sheet aluminum cut a peice out and pretty much bolted it on (some hittin and swearing!) It runs good but it don't wanna idle to well. I try ajusting the idle ajuster but nothin. Does anyone know how to fix this??

BTW, I got two dam speeding tickets in one week playing with my wined up toy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

NOTA V6 10-22-2001 10:08 AM

Sounds to me like that aluminum plate is leaking. Did you make a gasket for it? If not, you will need to, or use the "quick fix" silicone stuff like I did. That should fix your idle.

Sounds like there is someone out there that is better at collecting tickets than me. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Sounds like you need a Valentine 1 before they yank your license. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

1Revvin7 10-22-2001 03:47 PM

 I got one too And  got pulled over by two cops and almost arrest, but no ticket that time let me go :wow:

Rxtasy 10-23-2001 07:42 AM

my car came without an air pump when i bought it, the guy that owned it before me was an idiot (which makes me kinda scared) and that is prolly what my problems now are from... but he had cats on still and no air pump....what exactly does the pump do anyways? never bothered to check, never thought it was important..... but i did hollow out my cats a couple months ago, maybe 3, don't remember, done too much work on the car, I'm losing it....

I got pulled over 9 times within two months, and got a total of 14 tickets (more then one thing at once, IE not having drivers license on me, not having proof of insurance, expired inspection, etc) most were dismissed....only paid for one changing lanes without signaling ticket (pigs, gotta hate them)

NOTA V6 10-23-2001 11:14 AM

Cops. I'll just leave it at this. They have never given me a reason to respect them, or that they are"just doing their job". :sneaky:

Air pump. It pumps air to the cats to aid in the burning of unburned fuel, which helps clean up the emissions. Running cats (un-gutted) with no air pump will clog your cats.

1Revvin7 10-23-2001 06:20 PM

I got a Q? What does the hose that goes into the ac&cv do? Not the one that comes from the air pump. The hose that comes right from the side of the radiator,( not connecting to the radiator) and has a air space tube and air silencer on it connect to the hose. WTF is it for? Just curious https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

NOTA V6 10-23-2001 06:41 PM

Sounds like you are talking about the muffler.

When air is forced to exit the system, it pumps it into a little muffler. Isn't it cute? Without that, you will make a hissing noise.

That muffler may be removed it you are pulling the ACV and air pump. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

1Revvin7 10-24-2001 11:07 AM

LOL  talk about MAZDA having too much time on their hands and not knowing what to do with it.

1Revvin7 10-25-2001 08:59 PM

 DAMMIT i drilled into that bolt that snapped off on the AC&CV and got a puller piece in there, then when i whent to unscrew it, it snapped off too. So I'm going to try using just 2 bolts and a lot of that silicone gasket sealer, when the piece arrives tommorrow. I hope it F'in works!

NOTA V6 10-25-2001 10:14 PM

It'll work just fine. Just pray you don't snap another putting it on again.

1Revvin7 10-28-2001 09:26 AM

 I didn't snap one off. I got the plate on and sealed the whole plate with High heat and pressure silicone gasket rtv. That worked well. Its all sealed off and no leaks. But my idle is still at 900rpm. Instead of 750rpm like it was before i ripped the AC&CV off. I tried turning the idle down on the throttle body and it couldc't be screwed down tighter anymore. I can turn the idle up though.Does anyone know how to get my idle back down????

NOTA V6 10-28-2001 10:09 AM

Try the idle mixture screw in combination with the idle mixture screw on the throttle body.

It should look like the black thing in the lower right corner of this picture:

http://home.mn.rr.com/linnihan/thermoswitch.JPG

It should be by your air box (or where it was if you have done your air intake).

1Revvin7 10-28-2001 05:58 PM

 I didn't know about that. Cool, thxs i'l try that and hit you back.

dac 10-28-2001 07:13 PM

I just noticed my bottom pulley has several other groves. (I'm not running anything by the alternator and water pump).

Question: Can I just but a dual alternator pulley and run dual belts?

NOTA V6 10-29-2001 09:51 AM

Hmm... No experience there myself, but I'd assume that the grooves in the aftermarket dual kit may require different size (length and possibly width) belts, especially if they are underdrive pullies, and they may run the belts at different distances apart than the stock pullies. If one of the belts runs off center:

it will wear out prematurely.

I'd go with a complete dual bet kit if that's what you want. No use in short-cutting something like the belt drives.

dac 10-29-2001 08:04 PM

Got a note back from MAZDATRIX... yep It will work. A Dual Alternator pulley is all I need. So I will be ordering that. Since I'm not running the airpump I didn't want the water pump to slip, or risk throwing the belt.

1Revvin7 10-29-2001 09:12 PM

I found that idle screw mixture, but it has corrodid **** in it and i can't turn the screw. Is there any way i can take it off and turn something else???

1Revvin7 11-21-2001 03:52 PM

I found out that corroded **** was put in there stock, to keep people from changing it.... so the mechanic told me. Does anyone know why ??? ? is there any problems that might occur while ******* with this :( ???

iceman0059 09-03-2002 01:13 AM

Hey what was that black knob in that pic with the wires connected to it??? And how do you make it??? I am guessing its an idle adjustment knob. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...

mine is like that too, it looks like someone stuck JB Weld into it so no one fucks with it, i dunno what problems you could have if you messed with it? the motor could possibly run to rich and flood when you try to start it or run to lean? but if it runs rich and you got no cats you'll get flames out your exhaust, lol anyone?

sleeperRX7 09-03-2002 08:58 AM

this is my car if it helps any? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/index.php?...cfc94e305ef9afd

1Revvin7 09-03-2002 12:40 PM

well i found out you would get horrible gas mileage if u messed with it, there is no reason to mess w/ it anyhow.
