I've not done anything conclusive test wise yet, but it would appear that my 95 neon with auto tranny will out accelerate my RX-7. Now this could be a grass is always greener type thing, or the torque factor of the rotary but it's kinda unnerving.

I've also noticed that other cars on the road seem to have no trouble getting up to speed faster then my 7.

Now I'm not expecting that a stock 2nd gen with 185k miles is going to be FAST mind you but REALLY.

I'm reasonably sure my cat is plugged or not good, so that could be part of the factor....straight pipe here I come.

rxseven 06-13-2002 12:01 PM

You are gonna realize pretty quick that you can't shift gears the same way as normal cars. You have to rev the sucker up and shift between 4k-5k rpm just to avoid embarrassment. Porting and/or exhaust mods will further deteriorate the bottom end torque https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

That's why I get pissed off when people say wiring the 6 port actuators kills the low end performance, like we had any to begin with!

UniqueTII 06-13-2002 12:05 PM

Shifting between 4 and 5K? Only if the cops are behind me. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

A straight pipe to replace the cat will add a bit of power, even if the current one isn't plugged. Do your 6-ports work properly?

vosko 06-13-2002 01:19 PM

my gtu didn't really move unless you went to 8400 rpm then it felt at home https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Heh, I am hoping shifting between 4-5k would be enough to overcome a neon and avoid embarrassment.

1Revvin7 06-13-2002 08:56 PM

there has to be something wrong w/ ur car, neons are damn slow. I have a rx7.com bonez midpipe for sale, $100 its slightly used from time to time for 6 months, pm if u want it. its $150 new.

rxthis34 06-13-2002 09:47 PM

I have a 86 gxl,n/a seem to have the same problem, always getting blown away. my ports work well. exaust not plugged, car runs well and is very dependable, if you find a solution let ma know, thanks 777 raceing

vosko 06-13-2002 09:48 PM

ever done a compression test. if anything have a rotary mechanic check the car https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Buy a Turbo II. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Rotarydragon 06-14-2002 10:24 AM

Oh I've taken the car all the way to redline before, but not in traffic of course https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Again I've not tested it, it just seems that the Neon was quicker, could be the torque bit you know how that goes.

Not checked the 6ports, not done much of anything to it other then a TPS adjustment and oil change....as usual I get one that runs and I get busy or money goes bye bye *sniffles* Maybe this weekend or next...if UniqueTII comes down perhaps he can drive it and see what he thinks.

Otherwise I'm grousing without looking. Vosko and 13BAce are supposed to fix it without me looking at it or touching it with just a thought!

Compression tests scare me. I dont' wanna know, 185k on the clock...maybe if I pretend I don't see it it'll run longer :bigok:

I can't tell if my feet are to freaking big or I'm clumsy but heel/toe downshifting in this car is funky. .. .

UniqueTII 06-14-2002 10:30 AM

I'll be down next weekend, if that's cool with you. I have never driven an N/A (the only RX-7 I have ever driven is my own) but I have ridden in 2 of them with minor mods, so I should be able to tell you if it feels about the same. If my T/O bearing is still behaving I'll let you drive mine...it has some acceleration.

vosko 06-14-2002 10:39 AM

i would have let you drive my GTU ED! actually my GTU will be at the bbq i think. it now has an apexi n1 catback on it. i'll have to take it for a spin myself https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

UniqueTII 06-14-2002 10:42 AM

BJ wants a TII...I should buy his N/A to keep as a spare. He was going to let me drive it, and Jessica was going to let me drive hers...it just never happened.

vosko 06-14-2002 11:00 AM

i'd buy another N/A if i found one cheap. they NEVER BREAK!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

1Revvin7 06-14-2002 12:18 PM

If u want speed, find a TII, u can only take a n/a so far. Which i found out, don't get me wrong my n/a was fast, i never ever got beat period. then again i spent 2 grand on speed alone, stripped the **** outta it, and rode around w/ a headache cuz my ears ached. And if i would have gotten a TII,it would elinate it.

Yup nothing going on next weekend as far as I know =)

Depending on what's going on this weekend with me I may do some work on the car just to see what's what. Funny I bang away on the red one for a long time, get one that works and barely touch it.

You can make an NA pretty fast, as long as everything is working ok...that's usually the tough part. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I have only had the AE up to 120. I don't want to break anything, and I don't trust the tires on the car now. I guess I could put the rims/tires from my vert on there, they have z rated tires, plus the rims are smaller dia. and lighter. Too bad I wouldn't know if I really hit 150 though, because of the diff in rim size.

Rim size has nothing to do with the speedometer. It's the tire diameter that's important.

Check out http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html . They do all of the calculations for you.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 06-15-2002 02:25 PM

What I ment was that I would be changing the overall diameter of my tire. I think you knew what I ment. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/moon.gif

On the vert I've got 225 50 15s I don't know what is on the AE. It wouldn't surprise my if all 4 tires were a diff. size. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

What was the stock tire size for the TII?

Rob x-7 06-15-2002 02:28 PM

N/A are just that slow, I have one, and its slow, admiting you have a problem is the first step to a cure B)

I agree! My vert is slow even with the full dual exhaust. I guess that's why I'm selling it (the exhaust) to put the stock one back on. If I wanted to be loud and slow I'd buy a honda. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

I gained more than 5 hp from my exhaust, more like 20 - 30 hp. But the car is still slow!

I figured you meant that, but I wanted to be sure. TII stock tires are 205/55/16. The tires you have will still give a pretty accurate speed.

Yes i have started considering it, what kind of exhaust is quiet, but not too restrictive for the TII? i get scared when i punch it and everyone can hear me for a mile away. I feel i will get a ticket in 1 sec.

The best overall system--power/noise-- is the Racing Beat turbo back.

I saw a 10AE in my city two days ago with the RB turbo-back. I wanted to talk to the dude, but the car was parked, and I didn't have time to wait for him.

dysthymia 06-16-2002 12:49 AM

I've had my 89 GTU up to 132, and it scared the **** out of me. I couldn't get it any faster, though; sharpish turn coming up, I would have bit **** pretty quick. Oh well, now that I've gone that fast in this car, I won't have to do it again. Not until I mod it, which, by the look of my paycheck, isn't going to happen anytime soon.
