I only used Castrol 20W-50 in my TII, and I used the Napa filter.

Never heard of a FC taking more then 5 quarts, so I would say the FSM is wrong or they arent US quarts

or your reading it wrong.

The filter doesn't take up any oil unless the car is running.

Guess I better drain a quart then, or should I just drive real hard to burn it? Just joking!

FSM and owners manual does say 6.1 US quarts.

Never had the oil cooler issue with my first gen-manual said 5.5 quarts and that would bring it right to f.

actuallyu 6.1US Quarts is the complete maximum on a DRY engine, aka you're on the border of bad problems.

here's what the FSM says, verbatim.

Total (Dry Engine): 5.8 (6.1, 5.1)

Oil Pan: 4.4 (4.7, 3.9)

Oil Cooler: .85 (.90, .75)

Oil Filters:

Factory Installed .19 (.20, .17)

Service Parts: .17 (.18, .15)

so since i doubt you drain every last bit of oil from your engine every time you change it your slowly but surely adding way too much to the system.

The reason why 5 quarts is suggested is because when you drain the oil you're mainly draining the oil pan, filter, and then a little extra from other places, your not emptying out the entire engine of oil, some oil will always remain in the block.

So you add the Pan and filter (figure 4.6 altogether) and then since some extra oil will come from the lines to the cooler or other places you just round up to 5 quarts.

By repeatedly putting 6.1 quarts in your slowly building it up, 6.1 when built, drain oil and put another 6.1 in and realistically in the engine is probably 6.4 or so, and so on and so on.

the only time i would ever put 6.1 is into a brand new rebuilt completely oil free engine.

just put the 5 qts in, let the car warm up, shut it off, and you will see the oil is full.
