Please help! my 88se wont start. i hear just one click somewhere inside the firewall ( like a click on the main relay).

i pulled out the starter last week and got it tested and they said there is nothing wrong with the starter. i cleaned the wires around the starter area with brake parts cleaner ( some wires were oily). i was assuming the + and - wires on the starter werent getting a good contact.

where else should i be looking for the problem? could this be a bad wiring problem? ground problem?

i remember i was getting some buzzing noise in the sunroof area before i turned off my car, it hasnt started since.

the problem is kinda dumb, if we're talking about the same thing.

the starter solenoid needs to see like 12v, 11.9, isnt enough and it just clicks...

on the pre 87, and non us cars, the wire for the solenoid, runs from the battery to the key to the starter. which is fine

on the 87+ us cars, mazda added a clutch saftey switch to the circuit, and with the ignition switch AND the clutch switch its too much voltage drop, and the solenoid just clicks.

the solution is just to bypass the clutch switch, or possibly clean the ignition switch

in case you're wondering the clutch saftey switch is ONLY on cars in the usa, cause we sue when we cant figure out how to drive

thank you for youre reply sir. im gonna have to check the battery again to make sure i have enouhg juice on it.

btw, how would you bypass the clutch switch? im also thinking it could be a starter relay (just guessing). and how do you clean the ignition switch? do you have to take apart the insides of that white plastic or jsut clean the contacts?
