Hi All,

This is my first post, and I'm hoping for any guidance/help you can offer. I am working with someone to install a Haltech E6K into a 88 or 89 RX7. I'm not sure which year, but will know tomorrow.

Also, let me know if you need any more info on the car. I'll be able to get that all tomorrow too. I've never worked on an RX7 before, so I'm a little ignorant as to the changes in the design from year to year, or the options available during these years.

We are installing this for a race league, and as a result, must use the stock wiring harness, and stock ECU Box (but not the board). Therefor I am looking for any help with this.

Right now our plan is to remove the harness connector from the stock ECU board, and apply jumper cables from the stock connector to the Haltech board.

Therefor any electrical diagrams would be great. I have both the Haltech diagram in the supplied manual (version 9.0), and the Haynes manual for the RX7. Does anyone have a dealer shop ECU manual that may provide a little more detail? Also, an electronic file would be nice, so I can zoom in on the small print.

Otherwise, do you guys have any better suggestions on how to go about this?

Thanks in Advance,

Zack

ummmm.... good luck getting it to work with the stock harness and sensors...

does the haltech need to be inside the stock box? probably.

you'll have to unhook and remove the AFM as well. you probably can't remove stock sensors?

does the stock harness need to be attached and used on the engine? or just "in the car" I have seen people remove them from the engine and tape them into the trunk or something. maybe different class / rules.

The point of using an EFI system such as the Haltech E6K is to completely replace the stock Mazda stuff. In some cases, some of the stock Mazda sensors can be used. But, as far as the Mazda's ECU brick is concerned, it must be ripped out. The E6K in particular is not a piggy-back style of computer but rather a fully functionally-standalone EFI system that can be used on any engine out there (just about).

I would humbly recommend either sticking with the stock computer or removing it all together and using this unit depending on what you guys decide regarding that sanctioned race body's rules and what not.

If you decide to do the E6K and remove the stock Mazda unit, you may use my installation guide as a reference.

Good luck!

Yes, and the stock box has already been reworked to fit the Haltech

I'm almost positive that it does.

Thanks for your help on this first pass. I'll take this info in with me today, and we'll work from there. I'm sure I'll be back for more!

Interesting, I didn't think that would work either, but then again there is no reason to do it unless under some strict regulations...

What is a Mega Squirt?

I tried searching, but couldn't find any information.

Thanks for your install guide. We've started wiring up all the necessary pins. Since this is strictly for race application, we didn't require many of the sensors.

I have one question/request. In your install guide, you refer to a picture when setting the CAS and zero the base timing. Do you still have that picture. We just want to be sure we're getting it right.

Thanks,

Zack
