does the 88 rx-7 have a turbo

Tessai 05-12-2005 07:39 PM

If it's a TurboII... well, should be obvious.

Otherwise, no.

What Model RX-7?

The only factory turbo offered was in the TurboII to answer your question.

GTU, GXL, VERT and every other model is/was NA from the factory

612_Rex7 05-13-2005 08:02 AM

Only Turbo II my friend. I believe the ."ERRONEOUS INFORMATION DELETED"

If you are not sure about your info, please dont post to see yourself posting.

i.didnt.do.it 05-13-2005 09:35 AM

There are actually numerous differences between S4 (86-88) and S5 (89-91) cars, both Turbo and N/A, not the least of which were engine refinements that yielded more horsepower.

GOT_DRIFT 05-13-2005 04:39 PM

this one

jackboots 05-13-2005 05:02 PM

It would say turbo II on the side if it said anything at all...looks like that one might say gxl but I can't tell. also, the turbo model would have a hood scoop which that one obviously does not.

BTW, 612 Rex7, my 87 s4 turbo II had 16' wheels in stock form.

GOT_DRIFT 05-13-2005 05:27 PM

is this one just as good then and how easy is it ti instal a turbo

chase78 05-13-2005 10:50 PM

you're better off buying a T2 car then converting a n/a to turbo.

1.rebuilt engine with high oil pressure

2. t2 rear end (or else you will turn your n/a rearend to mush)

3.the turbo intake manifold is larger then n/a

4.exhast work

by the time you add it up it will be the price of e good T2 car + more

Whoa! Rear end, taillights, front bumper, mirrors, interior, suspension. There were TONS of things that were added to the S5's. And there is a ton more than what is on that list.

As far as power differences between S4 and S5 turbos, for the S5 they;

Increased compression to 9.0:1

Used a twin scroll turbocharger

Electronically controlled wastegaste to increase boost to 8.6 psi

And they got rid of the Flapper door style MAF

rowtareh 05-14-2005 02:06 PM

Stock boost on S4 is what? 7psi right?

Also don't forget all of the external differences between the series.

G2G 05-14-2005 04:43 PM

Yes, I was just going over the internal differences of the motor and power applications.

Apollorx7 05-14-2005 05:42 PM

stock boost is 5.5 on an s4. And i believe s4 had twin scroll turbos as well

drftk1d 05-14-2005 06:29 PM

it most certainly does

G2G 05-14-2005 08:13 PM

On the S5 Mazda redesigned the twin scroll system and called it the "Completely Independent Twin Scroll." The exhaust wheel was almost directly fed by the exhaust port. Basically when the apex seal first crosses the exhaust port, it cause a large distrubance in the chamber, as it is a large and very dramatic change in volume. The exhaust gases leave the chamber, relatively, faster than the a piston engine. These pulses of exhaust gas from the motor helps spool the turbo faster. Mazda realized this and made it so the exhaust wheel would get a more direct hit from these pulses which helped increase spool time.

rowtareh 05-15-2005 12:24 AM
