87' N/a Diff Noise

there is a loud noise coming from i beleive the differential,it only kicks in when i go above 30 mph,if anyone could tell what the problem is and how to fix without spending to much money,that would be great!

go the cheaper route first and check your u-joints for play, then look at your driveshaft make sure it doesnt have any dents, dings and stuff that may throw out out of balance ( I had some dried up concrete on one once and felt like I had solid mounts after 60mph or so........the following idea is not very safe, but you do what you gotta do when the budget is tight.......place you car on some secure jackstands and off the ground, notice I said "secure". Turn the car on and put it in gear to reach your 30mph mark and check to see where the noise is coming from. if the driveshaft it should be visibly noticeable, get a piece of garden hose and use as a stethescope, if the rearend, drain the fluid and check for metal. Lucas oil stabilizer with some mobil 1 synthetic gear oil has gotten me out of some binds before. Its hard to tell without being present but it could also be a wheel bearing. aww man thank you so much...i will check the driveshaft and change the oil in the diff...lol i dont think i wanna try that other crazy idea you had...but thanks agian
