if the droning noise is from the rear it's the rear wheel bearings, and you won't damage any spindle, it's just not safe and annoying. changing the rear bearings is a pita (told you elsewhere)... My gxl had a droning from the rear from the day I bought it, was the wheel bearings.



the rear bearings are sealed units, cannot be repacked, and are pressed into the toe control hub... mine got so bad before I replaced them that the camber and toe would change when turning (lots of slop), and it was not the DTSS because I had already installed the bushings for eliminating that.



What you can do is take your toe control hubs off a extra car, not sure what you have laying around maybe a donor for the 5 lug conversion? and buy some new sealed bearings, bring the toe control hub and bearings to a shop that has a press, it will take them 15 mintues to swap the bearings... while doing this it might be a good idea to order up the DTSS eliminator bushings from racingbeat and bring those along, they are pressed into the same toe control hub.



then bring the pieces back home and swap them with the ones on your car... piece of cake.

I'm thinking of just driving the car somewhere, and having them do it. I really don't want to go through the hassle of taking out the halfshafts again. Would they be able to change out the rear bearing without having to remove the rear control hubs?

it's possible to do without removing the toe control hubs if you have a tool called a hub shark, but even then it's still difficult.



removing the toe control hub is no biggie... probably more trouble to do it without removing it, check out where the bearing is:

I'm just sizing up what labor costs might be. I was thinking if they had to remove the whole hub assembly, it might be out of my range, and I might just have to cuss my way through it again.



But if they can leave it on there, that's cool!
