ok, after driving it some more, I've noticed some things. The brakes work fine, but I just have to push the pedal further before anything happens; but after that, it works fine. Can I just adjust the pedal? Or will my brake light be on all the time? Or is this the result of not having the GXL master cylinder vavle thingy?

Also, there is this loud droning noise, that gets louder with speed. It kinda overpowers the noise of my half-ass exhaust. I'm sure it's not brake related, because the noise doesn't change when I brake. Is this a sign of bad bearings? What else could the problem be? It's very loud.

And third, the weirdest one, is that I noticed a metal clanking sound a few times, I think from the rear. I haven't noticed any suspension parts falling off the car, and it still drives ok, but every now and then is sounds like a gremlin is hacking away at the rear of my car with a monkey wrench and sheet metal. I know it's not my exhaust, because I went back there after a trip and shoved the mufflers with a wrench, and they didn't budge.

Any help is appreciated.

if that's it, wouldn't I be able to hear it when pressing or releasing the gas? It seemed that it would make the sound almost randomly; I gunned it, I stomped on the brakes, and I swerved, and I couldn't seem to make the sound reoccur. I'll do some more experimenting, and see if I can do it on purpose.

pedal is a hydrolic problem, maybe they arent bled properly?

not sure about the GXl thinghy as I never did a swap myself.

droaning does sound like a bearing, curious- did you take out the driveshaft

for any reason?

If you bearings are making noise don't drive the car. It is dangerous and also damages the hub and spindle with excess heat.

When doing a brake swap. the brake booster between the 4 lug and 5 lugs are different, 5 lugs having a 1 inch bigger brake booster.

I bled the brakes twice, and I'm pretty sure I got all the air our. The second time, I did it excessively.

I did not remove the driveshaft, but I removed the halfshafts from the differential.

I have noticed the excess heat, as the rims themselves were hot after a ride. Can the noise be fixed with repacking the grease, or does it require that I replace the bearings? How involved is a bearing replacement?

And the brake booster, is that the large black circular thing before the master cylinder on the firewall, or are you speaking of the valve on the master cylinder that Banzai mentioned before?

I have too done the swap and i love it. The pedel will feel a bit "squishy" and you have to take it to the floor a little farther to get them to grip but the pedal isnt as hard as before. That noise is probably most deffinatly your bearing, i had the same problem and drove on it and ruined my spindle, to the J yard i went ot get a whole spindle/hub assembly (35 bucks, doh). The heat might be your brakes rubbing or could be the friction from that bearing. To test the bearing take your wheel off, and grab the rotor (make sure its not hot, and make sure that the screws are in the hub) and shake the bitch like yo' momma cought you ******* her sister. You should hear a knocking sound if its loose and might even see some play. Better yet, leave the wheel on there, you'll get better leverage with the bigger wheel vs the smaller rotor, like try twisting it.

Another thing that could make a clank is if you didnt tighten the DTSS bushing nut thight enough (not that i know from experience https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR

Good luck and keep us posted homie.

cool, thanks for the input! did you install the GXL master cylinder valve thingy?

Roy James 06-02-2003 01:21 AM

Sorry for the delayed reply, been busy latly. No i didnt install any of the five lug stuff so far as the MC and p valve is concerned. I do, however, want to soon. But what i have now works fine, just feels "funny" to me, a little too squishy than what i want, but not bad still.
