I bought an 87 TII 2-1/2 years ago, it ran for a day or two. I am finally going to buy an engine. The car sat underneith a tarp this whole time. My friend bought a 9300zx TT we have been working on and I cant stand it anymore. I gotta get my car going. I'm sort of limited on cash flow but I'm going to try to do it as right as possible. I want to buy a jspec w/ tranny (from osakajdmmotors.com) and basically just drop it it. Right now i just want to get from point A to point B, at least i'll have transportation while I'm working on a rebuild. What things do I need to change or check while the motor is out before i just drop it in. I'm guessing the front/main seals, I'll do the thermal pellet mod, what else do I need to know before i get into this so I will know how much money (so there is no big surprise)

Thanks

Ryan

BTW does Osaka have a good reputation?

rebuild the motor before you put it in and it will be very reliable otherwise you are playing craps

if the car ran for a few days then it has been sitting consider having your engine rebuilt.

f'it just remove the tarp, push fresh gas and fresh motor oil and see what happens. What is the worse that can happen? THe worse is your plan (engine swap).

Yeah, I'm kind of trying to stay away from the rebuild but if I have to, I have to. So right now the plan is to try it out, get a compression test and what not.... But is there anything i should do while the engine is out as far as maint? So far All I'm thinking is - all fluid change, sparkplugs/wires, fresh fuel, replace hoses and filters.... uummmmm and i guess hope for the best unless there is something else i'm missing or something else I should do. This isn’t going to be too long term only until i can save up for all the other things I want (street ported rebuild mainly) If the engine i get is strong, I will immediately have to buy some other things (tires/brakes/clutch probably)

My engine isnt rebuildable I had pulled the engine a while ago, looking through the exhaust ports it's pretty much screwed... I might be able to slavage some parts but its not a good base at all..

Has anyone on the board dealt with osaka??

Thanks

Ryan

i've never even heard of osaka. I'm also going to tell you to rebuild the used jdm motor. Its way too much of a gamble and will cost even more dearly $$ SOONER than later

if your lucky and the apex seals are good in the j-spec then the gamble is how long its been sitting and if the coolant seals are any good

take the advice of rebuilding it now or at the very least inspecting the engine really good upon delivery so you can send it back if its no good.
