13B RE into FC3S
#1
Im putting a 13b RE from a JC cosmo into an FC3S series 5 rx7. Has anyone here done this conversion before?
the main thing im writing about is engine mounts. I know that i will need custom engine mounts.
i have read this article here http://fc3spro.com/TECH/SWAP/COSMO/13b-re.html and it has links to 2 companies that did them at the time it was written, but the links no longer work and fc3s.org no longer seems to have them/advertise them. What can i do here? Does anyone know of a company that makes them? It must be a reasonably common conversion
I know that the gearbox from the fc will bolt straight up.
Ive also heard i have to change the sump to a 13bt sump. is this true?
will a standard series 5 turbo & manifold bolt straight up?
the rest is just straight forward mods thast would be done to any fc with decent power in mind.
anything else i should know about this conversion?

you might try:
http://www.speedmachineperformance.com/
as that is where fc3spro moved its parts business, although i couldnt find it listed under their parts.
you could always ask, they are as likely as anyone to know where to find/fab one.
good luck

you don't need to change the pan or anything on the cosmo engine. bolting on a stock fc turbo setup you will lose power over the stock output of the RE. A standalone is the best choice to run the engine. Now depending on what you are using S4 or 5. if you are using the engine in an S4 you will need to wire up and use an S5 ecu or go standalone (best choice to go on the RE) If you decide to keep the stock turbos I would suggest sending them to BNR Supercars and have them upgraded..or go to a big single set up.. something you might consider to make the install to an fc body less of a pain is using an FC waterpump.
A suggestion on a turbo setup that will bolt on and give you some good power is the Greddy 20g kit for FC

thanks guys. this is very helpful.
i currently have the 13B RE engine. the 13B RE differs to the REW with the mounts being on the end housing like the FC 13bt. which is a good starting point over the REW.
i will be running a standalone ECU, most likely a microtech as they are probably the most commonly used ECU here in New Zealand for rotarys.
i'll flick speedmachineperformance an email in regards to the engine mounts

I'm not sure if Dave is making them anymore..something about demand for them. I think that someone here makes them..If you get really stuck I can take some pics of mine and pm them to you. The pics would show how they mount. they also requier a spacer that mounts between engine and mount and a metal bushing spacer, like the one used on the altinator.

Dave dose not have them anymore. He quit because of the jack *** Chinese company on eBay that ripped off his design.
So Bonzai racing sells them and that company on eBay.
Good luck.
yea i sent dave an email. he said he no longer made them Because of the ebay ones. problem is i cant find them on ebay either... can anyone track these down for me? your help is greatly appreciated.
