well, finally started messin with the motor on my GXl. when i got it a few weeks ago, it was locked up tighter than ****. put ATF in the housings yesterday and today went on the power steering pulley nut with a adjustable wrench. we wiggled it until it broke loose and it turns over perfect now. the car has fire and it has fuel. its got air- i think, i hope- dunno how it wouldnt. the car was last inspected in 98 but the fuel smells fine. its pretty flammable too, we pulled afuel line and pumped gas into a bottle. dumped the fuel out and hit it with a lighter- its catches fire quick, really quick- lol. anyways, i cant get the bitch to start yet. i guess we're gonna try to throw a lil startin fluid in there(can i do this to a rotary?) and a tad bit of new gas. also- we drained the oil and it was extremely discusting. i wanted to barf watchin it come out. it was brown and clumpy. the radiator is the same so im thinkin the housings are cracked possibly. tonite we're gonna try some block sealer in it and let it sit to seal anything that could be cracked up. the motor has good compression from what i've heard out of open plug holes but thats not really anything to go by. anyways- throw me a few tips n hints to what i could possibly do to get this thing right. thanx for checkin my post.

Dave

my advice would to seriously think about a rebuild. your engine sounds like it was seriously mistreated, but trying to resurrected may ruin some engine parts that may be reusable right now.

it smells ok. i know this motor has been mistreated. anythng that has oil in it like what was in this car has been mistreated. im not really trying to do anyhting with this car as i bought it for body parts for my turbo car. the only thing its good for is a racer because i have no title for it. i also dont have keys(its not stolen). we got the car to fire a couple of times but nothing really great out of it. i think tomorow we're just gonna get everything outta the fuel tank and get in some fresh stuff with some octane booster or somethin cause its gonna need somethin kinda explosive.

The gasoline that has been in the system since 1998 is worthless. You may wish to consider draining the gas and sending the injectors out to be cleaned. It would not be unbelievable if an injector or four were gummed shut. If not completely shut, the spray pattern is surely horrific. You may want to pressure test the cooling system as well. Seven years of coolant is tough on the housings.

The brake fluid and transmission oil are bad, and the tires may be dry rotted (as in "BAM!" at speed).

What I'm hearing is "I have a perfect pet project to learn how to rebuild a rotary engine." :-)

If you're lucky, all the bearings & such are still good, and you can simply take it apart, clean everything out, and put it back together, wiser for the experience.

Also, the gas is 6 years old. It's toast. Burns, sure. Burns in an engine? Probably not. And I'd second the analysis that your injectors are probably so gummed up you're not getting decent fuel into the engine, at least not in any burnable form.

i think thats what its gonna end up being except i think that one of the housings are cracked and thats really got me worried. i've got another one that i can pull the stuff off of though. i think we'll end up makin this into a drag car due to the fact that i have no title and no keys. that just makes a switchboard an even better idea.
