I went to "high school drags" today, and SUCKED. Was it me, the atmospheric pressure (I'm at 1 mile high), or is my car not running all the way up to par?
These are my 3 runs: R/T .574 .634 .568 60' 2.611 2.461 2.586 1/8 11.552 11.289 11.421 MPH 61.77 61.09 60.04 1/4 17.934 17.700 17.780 MPH 78.05 77.38 78.17 1st run I dropped the clutch at 4k. 2nd run I slipped the clutch at 6k. 3rd run I slipped the clutch at 6k, then chirped the tires into 2nd. Oh yeah, the third run was a bracket race, if that makes any difference. |
it may have been a combination of those things, however the largest factor may be you unfortunately. Your 60ft times are just not very good. Practice practice. what tires are you running?
ouchies, 11 second 0-60
yea practice teh launch 5-6 and slipping the clutch is pretty much what u have to do, i assume its a NA, and u shoudl get high 15s or low 16s on a stock car, but i think your 6 ports are stuck closed your mph is low.
wow, that is bad, no offense... the mph seems extremely low though even for your altitude. Keep working on those 60 foot times with different launch rpm and clutch feel. Did you have any wheel hop??
If I let the clutch in too quickly I'd get wheel hop rather than sliding.
After the 2nd run I checked the actuators and VDI, they both work fine. The compression on the engine is good for this altitude. Is there possibly something wrong with the engine? It has never failed to start (knock on wood), and pulls pretty strongly. I've actually raced my friend's s4 turbo boosting about 8-9 psi, and up to 90 mph he only pulled about 3 or so carlenths on me. He ran a 15.8 yesterday. So am I really just that bad? I had a friend up there with a stock 96 auto cherokee running 17.5's, I also had worse times than a lot of complete POS trucks and crappy slow cars. |
Last time I raced at the track I got 18.5 against a civic that ran a 16.8.. and I still won..I had a .7 reaction time..
i've run 15.98 with my old gtu
Yea...you need to bring your 60s down.
My buddy ran a 10.6 in his '91 Coupe(1/8th mile)...all we did was gut his cats... before he could only run an 11.4..pretty close to ur 1/8th mile times. He had bad wheel hop and clogged cats. I told him to let air out of the tires and gut the cats...presto 10.6...which would have been a low 16...MAYBE even a high 15....in a mostly stock car...oh, and a k&n cone filter. |
Rotaryman88, where are you located? The altitude does make a big difference.
Yeah, altitude does make a difference.. if you run at sea level you will be faster too.. I ran 18.5 but using the conversion to sea level posted at LACR's website the time would actually be 17.9
n/a's are 17 second cars?
I thought that they would run 16s stock. This is disturbing, because its lookin to be slower than my 90 Accord. |
I think I can run the 1/4 mile faster than that....
NA verts are probably 17 second cars.
NA coupes should be high 15 - low/mid 16 second cars, when running strong... driver is a big variable too. |
on the Car and Driver test of the Vert when it was new it put down an 18.1, and it says it weighs 3050 lbs..
yeah that weight is killing it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png
Yup plus me..
well, just to show you that it wasn't just me that sucked: An NSX ran a best of 15.3, then ran 16.0. A 2002 CBR600F4i ran a best time of 13.0. An S5 GXL ran a 19.0, then a 19.91. A 3000GT VR-4 ran a 17.1. Many AWD Turbo DSM's ran mid to high 16's. The list goes on.....
Yeah.. I was surprised to see that because of the height I lost .6 seconds.. That **** makes a big difference..
Shitty track factor also, e-town is fast. that is how vosko got a 15.9 (he can drive too)
I stayed with chainsawonsteriods GUTTED, straight piped gxl, I launched harder, lost by 1/2 a car |

car and driver cant drag race, look at motor trends times...
Yea, i'm in VA and we use MD tracks...so we're close to sea level.
Never trust C&D times...they really cant drive! lol... My SE in stock form did a 17.1 at best...the NAs are 16 second cars brand new...most of these cars are aged and you need to freshen them up before they can be faster again,lol..my SE had clogged cats and a bad clutch when i ran that 17.1...when I put my straight pipe on, k&n intake and new tires...it would have pulled a 16flat or under I'm sure.... (damn SEs having 185 tires stock)... |

Those are some messed up times. So off that it almost wants to make me call BS, but dang those are bad.
My 85 SE ran 15.6 at 86mph with headers/highflow cat/racingbeat muffler and a RX7.com intake. thats in Maryland.
