My car is a 90', to answer your question 13Bace. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Then the conversion will be easier. Like OKIE said, you'll need the complete motor, drivetrain, ECU, some sensors, and the engine wiring harness. If your car was an 86-88 the wiring would be trickier. On 89-91's you just have to swap out the harness that runs through the passenger side of the firewall.

So what is the least expensive way out? If I keep my engine and get turbo and do what I need to do, will it be as good as any other "stock" turbo car? Or would a turbo engine be best? I am going toward just keeping my engine, and go from there. Either way I am probably going to spend a lot of money. But I just want to be sure if I should keep my engine or not. Cuz I don't want to buy a piece of sh*t engine with a million miles on it just cuz it's turbo. So basically I'm confused. Has anyone else kept their engine and got turbo in here? And if so is the list that bigtime made up all I need? Cuz I can always get a new drivetrain and fuel system if that's all that's gonna not keep up with the turbo. Cuz I would want to upgrade those anyway. I'm sorry this is so long, but I am seeking different opinions in the situation. :smilewinkgrin:

it will be faster than a normal t2 because a n/a motor has more power than a t2 that is not boosting

OKIERX-7 03-08-2002 03:33 PM

turbo

piping to throttle body

clamps

custom oil and water lines

boost controller

tII injectors
all of this plus

front mount intercooler

manifold

new complete exhaust system

bov

TID pipe

some kinda intake kit thing

AFR computer I would think and FCD, or Haltech

external wastegate

probably some other stuff too.

The biggest question is whether or not you think your engine is strong enough to take the extra boost. My T2 engine supposedly has under 20,000 miles, no way to be certain, but it definitely seems in pretty good/new shape. That is why I chose to do the full conversion. If you really want to buy a kit though, I think you can find some at

atkinsrotary.com. I didn't just because I didn't think my engine could take it.

It has a higher compression ratio....

S4= NA- 9.4:1 Turbo- 8.5:1

S5= NA- 9.7:1 Turbo- 9.0:1

Another option you have is to sell your GXL, and go buy a Turbo II. That would be by far the easiest too. :smilewinkgrin:

Yeah I could buy a t2, but the only thing is that I can never find them from 89-92. And plus I would wanna upgrade the stock turbo anyhow. True it would be easier. But whatever, I might as well upgrade everything while I'm at it. And yes it will cost a lot of money, but I'm in no rush to get it all done at once. But hopefully I'll get some form of turbo soon! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Cool, thanks. But another thing I'm wondering is would I be able to use a t2 transmission with my gxl motor, and some turbo, etc. In other words if I just used the t2 transmission and bought some turbo, would that work too?(And of course along with all the other stuff I would have to do). Like obviously I'm gonna have to get a new exhaust system, intercooler, and lines and stuff, but that is the main thing I was wondering about. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

The TII transmission will bolt to an NA motor, but you'll need the TII clutch, flywheel, and starter as well. If you don't want to use the TII rear then you'll have to do something about the driveshaft.
