So what is the least expensive way out?
Probably having patience and buying a complete TII with a blown motor for a grand or less. Than you can either buy a J-spec engine for 1100 or 1200, or rebuild the stock one. Either way you don't have to worry about swapping the drivetrain and all that other stuff, unless of course you like working on your car, and breaking stuff is half the fun

u do not need a new engine u need as follows

turbo

piping to throttle body

clamps

custom oil and water lines

boost controller

tII injectors

tII downpipe

custom exhaust flange to mate tII turbo

LOL, this from the guy who needed help on a rotary engine research paper.

rotor keychain.....here I come

Uh, I think you need more than that Bigtime. What about an IC? Intake manifold? Fuel pump? Don't get too pissed when your engine blows up on your test drive. :newlaugh:

So what is the least expensive way out? If I keep my engine and get turbo and do what I need to do, will it be as good as any other "stock" turbo car? Or would a turbo engine be best? I am going toward just keeping my engine, and go from there. Either way I am probably going to spend a lot of money. But I just want to be sure if I should keep my engine or not. Cuz I don't want to buy a piece of sh*t engine with a million miles on it just cuz it's turbo. So basically I'm confused. Has anyone else kept their engine and got turbo in here? And if so is the list that bigtime made up all I need? Cuz I can always get a new drivetrain and fuel system if that's all that's gonna not keep up with the turbo. Cuz I would want to upgrade those anyway. I'm sorry this is so long, but I am seeking different opinions in the situation.

Isamu is right, you may just be better off finding a Turbo II with a blown engine, swap the **** you need out of that, and rebuild the engine, or order up a j-spec engine for around $1000. 13BAce has done the swap, you can ask him for all the info on it.

Definitely not a bad idea, the only reason i did the swap on mine is because it was time for a new engine neways, but It has been close to 2 1/2 months and I still haven't finished. Getting all the parts is a pita. I woulda been done a long time ago if my damn parts woulda been here when I was told they would be. On the other hand, the extra time has really given me a chance to inspect and dissect the T2 engine. In that respect, I've learned an awful lot. Plus I had time to clean and polish the engine block and accessories, so now it looks real purty!

All right then. It seems as though most of you guys think that a new engine would be best. So if one of you guys would be able to give me a list of things needed(13Bace) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png , I would really appreciate it!! :p And maybe an estimated price for this whole thing. Thanks again!

Your best bet would be to find a wrecked TII that runs. Here's a link for a converion on an 88 convertible: http://www.rx-7.cc/TII.html . What year is your car?

Here's the basics on what I HAD TO get for my 90 Gxl to turbo 2 swap:

series 5(89-91) Turbo 2 engine. (I got mine from fc3s.org, It's J-spec, but had all peripheral parts minus BOV and it's in great shape)

89-91 turbo 2 rear end(both halfshafts, driveshaft, differential)

89-91 turbo 2 5-speed transmission

90 turbo 2 engine wiring harness(the 90 fits all series 5s)

series 5 MAF(boost/pressure) sensor

series 5 ECU (part# n370)

upgraded fuel pump , i just got the Turbo 2 one but walbro 255 lph would be better

an exhaust sytem for 89-91 rx-7 turbo 2

I felt I've left something out, but you absoleutley need all of this stuff, at minimum. Clutch came on engine, so did good turbo etc.... You probably want to get some boost/temp gauges too.

Oh yeah I got a turbo 2 hood also, but if you're smarter than me, instead get a front mount IC and keep your old hood. You'll have the "sleeper" look, plus more HP and it'll probably cost bout the same if you fiind a good used FMIC.

If you have a 87-88 GXL change all the "series 5" listed above to series 4. Rotaryman88 put a series 5(89-91) turbo engine in his 88 NA rx-7 and from what I understand it was even harder.

Let me also change my earlier post to "I spent about $3000 to convert mine"
