I was thinking of putting a 20b in my ultima gtr kit car. Where is a good place to look for 20b's. Are there any companies out there that offer them rebuilt and ported.

I have some good news on one set of rotor hats (can't remember front or rear). Off the shelf Wilwood should work https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

If the 20B doesn't work out, how about a 3.8 Buick Grand National Turbo V-6. You can get some serious Hp without much work from what I hear....but the 20B would be the $hit!

That would be great if the wilwood would fit, cut the cost a little. Never though of a buick engine, yet another possilbity. I am still thinking a 3 rotor if for nothing esle to keep the torque down and the exhaust fab to a minimum. Equal lenght custom 8v headers aren't cheap.

These would all be used cosmo engines correct? Can they be rebuilt just like a 2 rotor. I though they used different side + rotor housing so I wasn't sure if you could find parts for it. Maybe I am wrong but the chances of finding a low milage engine out of an early 90's car won't be easy.

yah, 20b's run about $3000-4000 used, they can be rebuilt easily, mazdausa stocks all of the parts

How much for the center housing and eccentric shaft? Those are the parts that scare me.

j9fd3s 11-12-2002 04:57 PM

the center housing is like $300 and the e shaft is like $900. i looked at that option too, you have three

1. buy it new, its $7500 short block

2. buy all the parts new, its like $7500 for a dissassembled short block

3. buy a used j spec for $3500 and either rebuild it, or use it and rebuild it later

Ok, $300 isn't bad. The eccentric shaft is pricey, but that shouldn't need replacing.

j9fd3s 11-12-2002 05:52 PM

yah the eshaft is the expensive part.

Just for fun I called around to get some prices on built 3 rotors.

Hurley charges 9000 for a completely rebuild 3 rotor.

Come with 3 mm race seals, their upgraded side and corner seals, and ported. It retains the stock turbo set up. Not sure if it's still seq or parallel. All you need to add is a management system + injectors. They said the engine is good for around 650 hp

Petit quoted me 12000. Said it was a rebuilt race motor, 3-mm seals, ported, stock twins in parallel, and they add more rod pin to the block for strength. They said it was good for 550 @12 psi.

Since I wasn't looking to buy anytime soon I didn't push them for detail about the warranty, what accessories it comes with etc. These are probably squid prices, I am sure you could talk them down some.

vosko 11-14-2002 03:21 PM

mmmm giant ported race prepped 20B.... the 13B in his other made 700rwhp with N20.... this one should do 1000rwhp without N20 i guess ??

RX-Midget 11-15-2002 06:07 AM

The 3 rotor I saw at Watkins Glen used std 13B rotor housings - not sure about the center housing. I'll see if I can find the pics of it when I get home and post it later tonight.

j9fd3s 11-15-2002 12:03 PM

you can use any 86+ rotor housing and any 89+ rotor in the 20b. the only 20b specific parts are the e shaft, front steel, front middles steel and the tension bolts
