Hey all just wondering what u think. Not sure if you have the Renault five where you are but it handles real well and goes good to (GT turbo), problem is the turbo version is so unreliable. Im hoping to build a mid engined rwd version or should i say many hours have been spent planning it, only problem im having is trying to find a transaxle thats strong enough and with similar dimensions to the bug trans.

Problem enough that im know starting to think of putting the 20B engine in the front of the car.

Should be fun?

The VW bus trans is really strong. You can also have a standard bug box strengthened inside and out.

If the Renault is front engine rear drive, I'd keep it that way.

the renault is a front wheel drive car, although there was a mid rear made for rallying which was reputed to handle like a dream. which is why id like to try for mid rear, if it wont go then ill just chop in a trans tunnel n fix up a rear diff n everything to the full modified cage thats going in it?

The beefed beetle trans is expensive and i wasnt sure the bus would cope, im hoping to start around the 400bhp mark and im one of these ppl who cant get enough so who knows where id stop.

Yeh there ok its just a shame about the engines , im runnin just over 250 bhp at the wheels at 22psi, this has led to the car being re-named to a fiat 5 (fix it again tommorow) n thats for real, its got a fair bit of lag aswel which i find kinda takes the fun away, hence the planned swap, not sure how it would drive with a front rear setup tho? so heres hopin i find a good transaxle.
