As for the replica bumper, you want some pics of all the work youre going to have to do to get it to fit good? either that or ask robx-7 he installed mine.

want to sell some FD parts https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Jerk_Racer 05-02-2005 12:16 PM

Yep, FDokinawa makes us parts vultures proud. Soon after we got the yellow car in the garage, he was there pulling parts. Just because FD's are common over here, that doesn't mean the parts are. Well, at least all the parts most people need.

Hellz, FC's are pretty rare these days. I can smell one getting parted out better than a shark can smell blood in the water. "DID SOMEBODY SAY THEY HAVE SPARE SWITCHS?!?" https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Dragon, heres a link to the pics showing wha you need to do to make the replica bumper fit good:

http://robx-7.nopistons.com/photos.php?projectid=7

after considering extra money to get the bumper fit perfectly etc, id probably have spent the same if i simply imported an original.

To be honest I've bought quite a few original FRP and wet carbon peices over the years here in Japan and have yet to have anything that fit even close. Prety much all of them have needed quite a bit of body work to make them fit. Have you finished it yet or are you still working on it?

Rob finished it already, he also reinforced some "weak spots" in the bumper. Its not mounted to the car yet as he took it off to finished primering and sanding the body.

It should be mounted and painted soon tho as its fully primered and hes painting the engine bay today.

I wasnt disappointed by the bumper, as i didnt expect it to slap right on, but it took a long time to get, i was missing a few pieces (chuck took care of that ASAP tho, hes a great guy), and i had to get new pieces of plexi cause the ones that come with the bumper dont fit properly. ALl in all its a good thing, depending on your determination for perfection... rob and myself are perfectionists https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

I called the japanese guy about the computer... he told me that it was a 97 computer but that there haven't been and significant changes in the program. He couldn't tell me what options are enabled, but I'll have my data cable here this week so it'll be easy to tell then... Thanks for the contact....

Bumper came in 2 days ago. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif got some bugs to work out with making it fit the rest of the FRP parts on the front end, but it should be getting painted this weekend or early next week if the weather permits...

maybe i got a bad egg of a bumper or something.

how about your plexi light covers, do they actually fit properly?

actuallly from looiking at your pic's it fit exactly the same way as yours... same gaps, hood overlapped the bumper a good 1/8 +, also had the buldge on the ends where they match up to the fenders.... It's damn strong though and most of the issues were fixed by taking off fiber, but there was still some fiber work to be done. The lights are what's being a pain in the ass for me...

Rob x-7 05-27-2005 07:55 PM

do the covers fit perfectly flush?

I havent even taken those lights out of the box, im trying to ignore them, lol

I have yet to take the covers out of the envelope they cam in... I'll mess with them later on... I made new mounts for the lights today. I'm going to actually mount them to the body of the car and cut out the area behind the light so that I can get to them for adjustment... I'll have to bring my camera with me when I run out there to work on it again sunday...

Rob x-7 05-30-2005 01:22 PM

why not just cut the area behind to allow access for adjustment and mount them on the bumper?

I was thinking mounting them to the car itself would set them back too much in the bumper and look odd or maybe even hinder light operation.

why is the light mounting on this thing such a mystery?

does anyone know the suggested mounting technique or is it up to the installer to just slap the **** together?

the real bumper has holes drilled in the sides, and the lights have studs on the sides, so you wiggles the lights around and then tighten the fasteners

Rob x-7 05-30-2005 08:12 PM

that seems to be the same, no pre-drilled holes though

Dragon 05-31-2005 10:05 AM

The lights with the Amemia bumper fit fully in to the holes and mount up easy... The hella lights are way thicker and they won't fit up in to the hole because of the 4 mounting/light adjustment tabs on the sides. I had to cut out the metal area behind the lights and made metal mounts for them and then welded it in to the area I cut out. Also went out and bought stainless steel bolts and plastic nuts to eliminate and rusting that would screw with trying to make later light adjustment... I'm not sure how rust preventive the springs are so I'm going to spray them down with some grease just to be safe. I keep forgetting to bring my camera with me, but I'll try to take some pics of what I did to make them fit. Had to beat out some of the inner fender liner as well up in that area to have access to one of the light adjustment screws on each side due to where the bumper positions them. Ended up being a day and a 1/2 of work and I had to put the bumper on and take it off about 20 times to get the fitment right. Lots of work, but in the end they will look bad ass and being solid mounted to the body I won't have the bouncy light vibrations from any movement of the fiberglass bumper while driving.

Rob x-7 05-31-2005 07:28 PM

please take pics of the light mounting technique

and thank you for reminding me to leave those lights in the box for now, lol

teknics 06-01-2005 05:16 PM

this bumper is a pain https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

Chuck says to "drill holes, put bolts thru, put nuts on inside and tighten"

once you get the lights and bumper in your hands tho you realize

A) lights dont fit in the light "tunnels"

B) brackets seem to short

C) its a process.

Dragon, the plexi covers look crappy the way they come, I had chuck send me 2 uncut sheets of the same plexi (basically got 2 large rectangles of plexi, just the exact same thickness) so that we could cut the plexi to the shape it *should* be.

this bumper is more of a problem then ive had in the rest of the buildup of my car, ive considered trashing it a bunch of times but the fenders are cut and i still like not having popups so i still prefer the bumper, if id do it again id probably go with the real bumper.

kevin.

Rob x-7 06-01-2005 09:13 PM

check for flush fitment of the plexi as well, you might have to grind some of the flange away to get it flush
