Hi.

Got my first 20b ride, her the other day, and I just got to say, that this, wow, is an realy realy cool engine. So the urge to put one in my car is BAD.

So checking out some thing, and hopy that you lucky bastards whom got one, can tell me some facts.

If I get me one of these engines, can I:

Rip out more or less the vacuum system, hoses and solenoids, put in a haltech ecu,and a big single turbo ? I have done some work on a 13b-re engine, and the vacuum systems etc gives me the creeps. Next engine , I want to simplefy my engine bay, alot.Would this be a problem with this engine ?

What about the tranny ? This engine revs quick.!!! hows this engine with an 5 speed tranny, are the stock 20b auto tranny any good ?

Is it a strong engine ? Or what are the thing that usaually break it?

Hard to say, not alot of people can afford to do 20b swaps, so you won't find a load of information on what you want to know.

Call up one of the performance rotary shops and ask away, they like that type of ****.

But a 20b swap is no 10k swap. It's easily 20k+.

For everthing your going to need including the car you can do it yourself for around $15k. I would suggest starting out with a T2. It'll save you time and money in the end. If you go with a single setup you won't need the rats nest. Its mostly for the sequential twins. As far as the stock 20b tranny goes, I haven't heard anything good about it. Just use the s5 t2 tranny. All the bolts line up except one. Start off with a Motec m48 or m8. You'll be much happier.

Agreed. Yesterday I learned that their outrageous ecu prices do not include the harness. How much could that add? -$2,000

The options I am considering are:

-Autronic SM4

-Haltech E11v2

-Electromotive Tec3R

-AEM universal

The SM4 has a lot of promise, but no real track record (that I'm aware of at least), requires an external module to run 6 ign coils (not sure if that is something to be concerned about or not) and I've read that the software is still buggy.

The E11v2 is reasonably price, the software is very easy to navigate through, and has more than enough aux outputs to cover all the normal functions and then some. However, I had been told the timing control is not perfect for certain trigger setups (although the deviation is toward retard rather than advance), and it does not have traction control.

The Tec3r has a great ignition setup and a proven track record. The software is dated, and it doesn't have much in the way of extra functions.

The AEM has nearly as many features as the SM4, but a **** poor track record.

We can add MegaSquirt to the list of ECUs capable of running a 20B.

The guy doing my swap plans on using a Wolf. I like the price and he likes the set up. Now if we can just figure out how to run those damn exhaust manifolds. Doing the single Blowzilla and keeping the stock location more or less has JR rubbing his head bald!!!

Microtech LTX 12

Electomotive Tec 1 w/wintec2 upgrade

Motec M4

I have used all 3 of these on 20b's, and I like the Motec the best so far except for the price. The Microtech would have to be second because of the price, but it is about even with the Tec as far as ease of use.

Because I am a cheap bastard that only really cares about what I need and not all the bells and whistles that I will never use, I would go with a microtech, because when it is all said and done it's only fuel and spark.
