NO! Seriously, we had some dumb *** over here stick his finger in to a TD07 while another guy was revving the engine. Guess he thought he could stop the compressor wheel with his hand or something; anyway it basically shaved his finger off it to almost the nail bed. The intercooler pipe and compressor housing were full of blood, flesh, finger nail and bone and it destroyed the compressor wheel as well.
and that screen still flows better than a filter.. The tests where they said a filter was better was done using fine mesh screen where they compared it to a K&N filter etc and it was a pretty biased report that I saw.

At idle my compressor wheel doesn't spin with my td07 unless it's at operating temperatures. I can see how someone could hold it from spinning at idle but once it's going there is no way I'd stick a finger in there.
You're not worried about contamination though? I hate the idea of sand making it's way through my turbo,I/C and engine without a filter.

We live on a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, not a whole lot of dust etc in the air here so we don't have to worry about it... nice clean air... and no gravel roads...
The turbo was on a 1/2 bridge ported engine and spun like hell even at idle...

think you could give us a list of everything you had to fab up when your finished? or maybe some sort of spec sheet?
nice attention to detail with everything
can't wait to see this thing run

. the scrren we use is from japanese stainless steel tea strainers it's stiff and not your every day door screen etc and the holes in it are about 1/8" squares so it flows pretty good and keeps the rocks and peoples fingers out of the turbo..
actually I think normal door screen will flow much better then any filter as well. hm.. what if you made a few big cones from door screen and stack them. Should flow better then any filter, will keep dust out because when layered should be pretty fine. And if its big then you have alot of surface area for air to get in thus lowering restriction because you dont need to pull so much air per square inch, or cm, etc.
tropic climate helps with killing dust, here in california though... where I love anyway, its very clean but you never know, they had construction on a local expressway I use alot and there was tons of dust, and I run with no filter ^^ had to avoid that street...
the door screen sounds like a pretty good idea though...

you would if the screen was from my door ^^
not sure how well it would flow though... but it cant be worse then a normal filter... or can it?
how well do those filter flow? I know the one in my car is a peace of **** so I just run without it, but I dont know, are there any high flow aftermarket filters that would preform well with a big turbo?
