i live in missouri. I was thinking about putting a turbo on it and i was not planning on using the stock ecu. Im afraid of doing the swap and going to the emissions place and they say hey your car doesnt pass so you cant get your license plates renewed.

thanks

well hate to tell you this but 20 be no pass sniffer test..you basically need a "hook up" in that department. I'd find some local guys with modded cars that you know won't pass and see who they use..but then I might be wrong about it. What are the requirements for cars in your state..you you need visiual insp? what else.. I'm thinking if you had it tuned to pass smog you might be ok IE lean it out and have a 2 cat test pipe and use TECHNICAL isopropal alch. you might make it.

the stock cosmo setup with stock ecu and all 3 cats, will pass smog. its possible but you need it tuned, right, and you need a big or multiple cats

Ok rubbing alch. you buy at the store is isopropal..however that is only around 5% concentration..Technical is around 45%..pour it on you skin and it will turn white and parts will flake like dandruff (sp).

How it works: Basically all fuel has water in it..you cannot pull all water out of fuel no matter what you do. you can however pull the (lets call it "free water") Free water out by filters and other methods..The TECH ISOP. will dry out the fuel making it burn better cleaner...example...mid 70's chevy truck with a 454..blew dirty as hell at smog..a little carb adjustment and 1/2 can Of tech isop. nothing else passed the next day no problem.

I usually get it by the case, several cases at a time but we don't have any right now..if I did I'd take a pic of the can so you knew what to look for...

but like J9 said try to cat the **** out of it with a test pipe and tuning it might go. If not you have a base of how far you are off.

What about using ethanol as opposed to isopropal alcohol. What about tuning the engine to run E85?
