my exhaust is black and it is getting black stuff on my bumper. its not burning oil or coolant. cracked head?
https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif really though, i do have that problem |
i know my exhaust heats up quite nicely and blackens the bumper a little bit, and you did say your exhaust runs pretty hot, and by the way it felt to me from standing behind, compared to mine its alot hotter. bens fd does that too, i think it may just be an rx7 thing.

running rich?

I second the running rich.
Cracked head.............I almost missed the bottom of that...laughing to hard. |
ok what to do to fix the mix?
|
what mods are on the car? Carb'd or EFI?
|
efi and no mods except exhaust. it has some presilencer and AM cat, into a flowmaster.
well let me rephrase that, no mods that i know of. |
aftermarket FPR or stock? can you check the fuel pressure?

And what makes you think that? The set screw for the fuel is on the passenger side just back from the air filter. Little black thing with a screw in it. This should NOT be screwed with by just anyone or turned just any which way. If in doubt either take it to someone that knows what they are doing or read the book extreamly well. That screw is for the fuel adj. and is marked with a L and R. This is NOT left and right! It is for lean or rich. Mess it up and it will take you awhile to get it back right. Adjustment should also be made with the air when making these adjustments. If you are going to try this on your own I would suggest a pen and paper, count the revs that you turn the air idle srew and write it down. Aslo a marker to mark the spot the fuel was originaly set. Write that down also. Then fool with it all you like, drive it around and carry a small flat tip with you. Also might want to check the timing when setting all this. Just a thought. |
i was under the impression that that only changed the mixture at idle. nevertheless i did just set that the other day after setting my tps. it says how to do all of that in the fsm.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif really though, i do have that problem it could be a few things, if its a slow buildup the cat might just be bad, it will turn the whole right rear corner of the car brown with no cat |

to kinda reply to everyone...
the buildup isnt all that slow, and if you watch the exhuast you can tell that its black. the cat is the one that was on it when i got the car, i am the one that said it was glowing, i dont know anything about exhaust but the guy who did the muff said it was normal. maybe its not? what if i just ran a straight exhaust to the muff in the stock location? i know that some of the port actuators run from the backpressure so would that still work correctly if it was straight? probably on the same page as this problem, when i have just started the car and start driving, after its warmed up of course, if i get on it right away it will blow a cloud of white or blue smoke when i shift through all the gears. this happens when i get past probably 5k, but only the first time i run through the gears while im on it. does that make any sense? p.s. im not using oil or coolant. |
wait is the fuel pressure regulator hooked up to anything? if its open you're gonna be way rich in the midrange
|
you mean the fpr in the rail or the fpr solenoid buy the dynamic chamber?

the fpr bone is connected to the fpr solenoid bone which is eventually hooked up to the intake manifold. |
still not clear but heres what i know. the solenoid is connected to the vac line but the nip that points under the dyn chamber has nothing on it. i think thats how its supposed to be. as far as i know the fpr itself is hooked up, i guess i havent really looked but i will

are we talking about the same part? im talking about the fpr solenoid that is on the drivers side right next to the vac control solenoid. its got two nips on it, one has a vac line and one has nothing. its the same way on my fc but my fc's has a black plastic thing that slides over the open nip, but it doesnt seem to do anything. the solenoid on my fb leaked a little gas out of the open nip while cranking, before i ever got the car started and it was severely flooded. since i got it started i havent noticed any fuel coming out of it, i havent checked it but i know there isnt a significant amount bc i dont smell it and i havent had any fires! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
ok i just looked at mine, and you're missing the little filter, no biggie
