I just picked up an 83 gs from a griend of mine for 500 bucks. It's a total beater car, but I needed something to drive while I was working on the fd. I pulled it in the shop to change all the fluids today, and noticed that the coolant looked like milk. So drained and filled the coolant, and sure enough, the idle got rougher, and the champagne bubbles commenced. I bought the car knowing that I would have to rebuild the engine pretty soon anyway, so this doesn't really bother me. What I wanted to know is, once I rebuild it, I plan on running straight headers (possibly slightly muffled) out the side. With an open exhaust, can the nikki carb handle a streetport? What about a half bridge? I'm just brainstorming the cheapest way to fix up this beater. I'll get some pics up pretty soon. Thanks.

the stock carb is best for stock ports, and maybe a mild street port, after that it starts to be really small. they did run modded stock carbs with bp's in the early 80's so it can be done

I would suggest going with a holley. It would have the "out of the box" airflow

that you would need.

A RB/holley setup or RB/Dellorto setup will work best on a ported engine.I would suggest the holley tho.Parts are easy to get.
