if it starts that good first thing your dist cap may be getting some moisture or may not be a vented cap see if it has a vent or just spray the cap with some wd-40 or any of that spray that dries ign. parts

do you use the choke on restarts?

Check to see if the cap and rotor on the dizzy are in good shape.I know if the rotor is starting to get bad thats one of the first signs.

Yeah,The rotor sits under the distributor cap and pulls off.The cap just unclips from the dizzy and mark where the plug wires went to get it right when you install a new one.You also should have to choke the car if the engine isn't cool anymore. You should only need the choke if the car is cold.
