Unlocking without keys
So I've ran into a bit of a problem. Last night while working on my car I locked the keys in it, dangling in the ignition. I don't have a spare since no-where around here has blanks.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to best go about getting it unlocked? I'm about to try hitting the hatch release with something, but I keep seeing somewhere that you can easily open one up with a phillips screwdriver and I can't figure out how that might work in any way.
It's an '85 GSL-SE.

step 1; find something metal and flat. a metal ruler works perfectly. i actually used the metal strips from the windshield wipers once
step 2; put ruler between glass and weather strip right above the door lock.
step 3. push down, you may have to go side to side a little. eventually the ruler hits the lock rod and it'll pop open.
step 4; open door, open beer.
yes it really is that easy, and yes you can slim jim the car with its own wipers

I'll have to remember that in case I get stuck somewhere without tools! I always thought you'd have to pull up on the lock rod to get it open, since the lock pulls up.
While I was walking around it, I hit on another idea and tried to pop open the sun roof vent. It pried up rather easily. I was then able to take a long hex key and hit the release latches on the inside. All I had to do after that was lift it up enough to reach inside and unlock the door.
Thanks for the quick rely j9fd3s, I think I'll follow step 4 now!

Funny story. When I went to look at/buy my T2, I took a friend along. He brilliantly locked the keys in the car. While standing around wondering what to do next, I stick the key to my 626 in the lock and work it around a bit. It unlocks the door. Success. Smacked my friend in the head.
