Lets say I've got a T2 engine and tranny, etc, in my FB and I want to add a boost guage, fuel pressure guage, water temp guage, oil temp guage and monster tach with shift light, and maybe oxygen sensor, do I use mechanical ones or electrical ones?? Or does it depend on the type of guage itself ? (as in an oxygen sensor has to be electrical cos mechanical ones don't exist).

Anyone fitted any of these types of guages?? (I'm looking at you directfreak )

:stickpoke:

TIA

I'll be running electrical on the 83.These cars came with electrical guages so I might as well add more.I'm going to mount a Volts and Air/Fuel guage in the A-pillar.I just need to install my 5" monster tach and shift light this weekend.Once I get the T2 project started I'll be running a shitload of electrical guages to make sure nothing blows up on it. :bigthumg: I still need to figure what parts of the main harness I need to keep off the T2 main harness that has the ECU connector on it.That harness is like 7 feet long in my basement.

So the 83 instrument cluster will hook up to the T2 engine and tranny and still give the correct readings? Or will they need to be recalibrated?

the 83 cluster will work fine. i like electrical guages except for the boost guage, then i like mechanical. with mechanical guages you have to plum oil or coolant into the car, and that doesnt exactly seem like fun

Hey mike,How much of that main harness do I need?I have it all the way from the battery cables to the dash.I want to remove as much of it as I can for a easier install when I put it into a FB body.Theres also this metal box on the engine harnnes attached to the engine I never saw before is this a critical part of the ignition? The coils are run off the harness before the ECU?Do I just wire the coils to the stock first gen coil spots?I know they have built in ignitors.Damn chris32472 never updated that site on the wiring.

Hey mike,How much of the main harness do I keep? How do I wire it to a FB cluster?I know the guages are run off the oil pan sensors and the alternator is run off the stock wiring as well but what about the coils?I see the plugs for them on the harness but that harness is from the ECU to the dash to every other part of the car including the rear hatch and front horns.Damn chris32472 never updated his site so I am clueless on this main harness I have. Also theres this stupid metal box with a connection on it and is part of the engine harnees.IS it nesscessary?I never saw this thing before. The driveline is 88 T2.Thanks

I have electrical gauges in mine, except the boost gauge. I put the boost and a/f meter on the A-pillar, the digital volt and water temp under the stereo. Still need to pick up oil pressure and fuel pressure gauges. Gotta decide exactly where to mount them.

I have all Electrical gauges except for the Boost Gauge. Some 1/4 mile tracks won't let you run if you have certain liquids inside the passenger compartment. You could avoid this by using Isolators, or Electrical Gauges.

As it was previously stated - you don't want hot oil or fuel in the Driver's compartment. They do leak every once in a while too.

This pic is from a Series II, and it might be a good layout for you.
