sorry if this is hyjacking this thread....but the 12a turbo's were efi right? do you think 'if' i were to find just the irons would the water jackets line up with the 1st gen 13b? and how would you guy's think it would preform? this has been a long time idea of mine an i just forget to ask

thafox 04-08-2004 11:35 AM

also forgot to ask if done would it be better to make turbo or make n/a?

can i get like 2 honest opinions? the 12a turbo engine for $1200 from rotaryshack, worth it? because im seriously about to cut a check.

$2,800 for a 20B? Holy Crap!!! Thats like the cheapest I've ever seen! Oh wait, I dont see any turbos. But still thats a wicked price. As for $1200 for a Turbo 12A, I donno, I'd call them or something. How do you know if its Computerized or not or will accually be capatable without spending $1200 more to fit it in?

EDIT: Im thinking of cutting a check too and picking one up if they have a couple more in stock.

It seems like they make alot of custom parts, maybe they can make or get a header for a 12A. Then you can just buy a carb kit and get a new intake, throw a carb hat on it, and bingo, your turbo ready! I submitted an e-mail, I'll see what they have to say for themselves.

N/A Requires alot of displacement to create alot of power as it rely's on the air flowing in on its own. Thats why alot of guys with big chevy engines use carburated setups still. Big Displacement. But Rotaries are far from big. In fact they are probably one of the smallest production displacement engines out there (In north america anyways). With a Turbo your using forced induction. So your forcing air and fuel into the engine to create more power. The More PSI, the more Air/Fuel, the more power. Theoretically. A Turbocharged Rotary would be optimal. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

The one thing that really boggles my mind though, is how did they get 250HP out of the RX-8's N/A 13B? I mean, an FC makes 255HP with Two great big turbos on the same size engine!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

well thanx for answering one of my questions ......as for the 8 i think it's due to yet again lightening internals i could be wrong but from what im learning or more like from what im thinking is the lighter the components on the inside obiously the faster they spin an im assumming the more hp u get out of it.....but that's just my edumacated guess dont hld me to it.....sorry 2 make this sound bad but can someone now answer my other question...LOL

if im not mistaken, their "renisis" engine is ported differently on the rx-8 and some other crap. im not a gearhead so i dont know. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

Yeah somethin like that, the renesis has side plate exhaust ports and a six port induction system. That plus lightening, balancing and clever engine management combine to make good numbers. I would like to see power numbers after a couple of turbos. They Would be very nice indeed. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

Theres a mazda dealer here that offers a Turbo package for the RX-8 that a local shop put together. I dont think anyone has dared to install it as a dealer option yet, but it remains in their glass. Its like $5000 (Canadian) though.
