transmissions suck
Is there any way that transmission fluid can make its way into the combustion chamber? I have a 12 auto and recently upon start-up usually only when its warm already it blows out white smoke but its definitely not cuz of antifreeze. I'm actually 99 percent positive its ATF but i don't know how its getting in there. The obvious first thought would be a seal between the two but could it also be any type of vacuum hose or something like that? Also, does anyone know where i can buy a good condition manual tranny to replace my automatic? not really feeling the press the pedal and go thing anymore lol.
so your saying the seals are burning? it normally burns that blue tinge during the first start up of the day. The reason i say that its ATF is cuz one time i flooded it and used ATF to unflood it and it laid out a smoke screen and a half for a cap full between the two barrels on the carb. It doesn't smell like oil either it smells like garbage.
i thought that there wouldn't be a way for atf to get in there but thats all i could think of. i didn't think it was my coolant cuz my oil isn't milky the way contaminated oil looks. Would that just be a seal type thing or would i have to get whole new housings?
do you think it could possibly be from carbon buildup? i know im just shooting in the dark but i haven't noticed any type of drop in the coolant level. i'll fill up the resevoir tomorrow morning and get back to you on how it goes. It's my daily driver and its gonna be a 14 mile round trip from school and back. I've also noticed that even after changing my oil about 1k ago, it already smells like gasoline. Maybe that could help diagnose it as a seal type problem.or possibly thats just from it being cold and from the manual choke.
My coolant level is fine. But my tranny level is constantly dropping. I changed the pan gasket when I flushed it in the fall. I was thinkin the slight drop I was getting before it started smoking crazy randomly was fro a leak in the transmission pan. I woulda checked it out just to make sure but it's cold as hell outside and I don't have a lift. This morning I checked my tranny fluid and it didn't show up on the dipstick qhen 24 hours before I had it to about 3/4. Te fastest I've ever seen it drop. It'd usually go a couple weeks before it hit the L mark which is why I though it was the tranny pan gasket.
