ahh both rotors are good, im not worried about internal, everything checks ok inside there buddy. what can u tell me about a fuel check and cut valve? next on the all-mighty list of ideas. i feel another trip to the junkyard coming on.

Hereonout 12-14-2002 12:57 AM

ok get this. the vent and check valve goes to numerous hoses and pipes and ****, one of which may go to the carb....one line goes from the vent check valve to thefuel tank....now the check and cut valve is located by the gas tank and has two hoses coming from it, if its by the gas tank u would assume it would have something to do w/ the fuel flow, so .....possibilities are arising. taking a trip to the junkyard monday and going to get both of those damned emission parts:(

prince 12-14-2002 08:43 AM

be sure to put the check valve on correct, only flows one way, the same thing for the fuel return line valve by carb (if you have one)

Hereonout 12-16-2002 02:04 PM

.......ok i cant ******* figure it out...why would a car die when the gas is pressed?....what could happen overnight while a car's sitting still?

j9fd3s 12-16-2002 02:21 PM

the check and cut valve is to stop the fuel from siphoning out when you turn the car upside down, you do do that periodically right?

Hereonout 12-16-2002 09:40 PM

cant say i have recently.......sounded like an idea though. got any of those?

drifter 12-16-2002 10:08 PM

This might have already been suggested, but have you checked all the hose connections for the vacuum system. I've had 2 different cars that would drive like a bitch unless I floored it and/or took heaps of herbs to start up. Then I found that two hoses were split in one of the cars and in my recent aquisition, one had broken off. As soon as I fixed them, it started every turn and ran smooth (well as smooth as they can). https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Just a thought... cos your carby sounds like it should be right...

Hereonout 12-16-2002 10:19 PM

buddy you have been the closest to my problem than anyone out here, and no offense to anyone because you guys have helped me find a lot of things that i needed to know, but do you know what two hoses, because there are maybe 2 that are pluged w/ ****, but i bought it like that, and it ran fine like that.

drifter 12-16-2002 11:43 PM

just trying to find a pic to demonstrate. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

drifter 12-16-2002 11:59 PM

Have you had a look at the mitchell service manual? You can download it free from http://www.iluvmyrx7.com. If you can, look under the engine performance section, it has a whole heap of stuff. I'm limited on my work computer, I'll try and get a pic off my laptop in about 10mins.

drifter 12-17-2002 12:28 AM

This pic shows your carby and some of the hoses off it.

This shows your air vent solenoid location and also where some of your hoses are.

not allowing you to link buddy, try something else.

try that

drifter 12-17-2002 07:39 PM

Thanks mike.

Thats pretty funny, I didn't expect that. I only set that site up yesterday so I could link pics to posts. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Oh well. I'm not paying, if you can, just go to my site until I can find a free site that does allow remote linking.

My Webpage

F**k I hate free hosting, popups and ads and restrictions

I'll get back to you.

drifter 12-17-2002 07:53 PM

Ok, I've put the images up under different names now, but I've not linked them to here so that you can just see them on my page. Who knew? I can't believe they actually check that **** and then replace your pics with that crap. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/wtf.gif Anyway, they are now called choke.jpg and solenoid.jpg (I wont link them just in case) I'm now going to do a little bit of work so I don't get fired, then I'll go hunting for a free host that allows remote linking. Then I'll make that other page a splash page, or something. I apologise to Hereonout for any inconvienience.

Hereonout 12-17-2002 09:31 PM

no problem man, but thanks for the info

drifter 12-18-2002 12:57 AM

Did you check out the mitchell manual? Even if it doesn't say anything specifically about your problem, it gives some good diagrams to show you what bits and pieces your looking at. :wiggle:

A guy at my other work (non-rotary mechanic) asks if you've tried changing your plugs to make sure your firing properly? I still reckon that it sounds awful similar to my vacuum problem. I had a hose snapped off my charcaol canister too. Nasty business, got the car cheaper though, and fixed it in about two minutes. First thing I look for now if one of my cars starts running dodgy is a whooshing noise under the hood, or basically any bits of hose that may have fallen off or come off under pressure. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

Hereonout 12-18-2002 10:16 PM

going to build it with a 12a or 13b?Either way they are good engines. When they run.

Hereonout 12-19-2002 01:51 AM

put a weber carb and replace every damn thing i can think of on the car down to the ******* fuel gauge sensor if i have to, im going to find the probem even if it kills me, im not taking it to some god damned mechanic so he can **** with my ****, its like taking your girl to the doctor and he fondles her, hell no its my bitch and only my hands are going to touch her. im going to figure it out.

j9fd3s 12-19-2002 10:35 AM

haha, my 83 is doing the same thing, i "rebuilt" the carb and that didnt help too. one of us will figure it out

mike

Hereonout 12-19-2002 11:36 AM

well i took the carb back apart thinking i may have missed something. on the floats, there are two arms which the pin runs through to hold it in place. one of the floats the arms are bent to the side. would that maybe be an issue? oh and finally someone knows what im going through.

j9fd3s 12-19-2002 12:40 PM

yah, i know i'm kinda pissed it wasnt the shutter valve

mike

Hereonout 12-19-2002 08:00 PM

gotta be the carb man.

j9fd3s 12-19-2002 08:11 PM

haha, i was impressed with myself though, i took the carb apart and put it back together and it still runs the same

mike

Racer X 12-19-2002 11:35 PM

My '83's carb was rebuilt when I bought the car and never gave me any problems. Those Nikki's are good but sounds like you guy have a pair of '83 lemons.

Hereonout 12-20-2002 12:01 AM

sounds like it...yeah i was so happy w/ myself when i put it back together. looks like i gotta tear it down again here in the next couple of days. new floats are coming in on monday.

Racer X 12-20-2002 12:25 AM

I hope it works for you.those 12a are fun engines.

drifter 12-20-2002 12:27 AM

Yeah, I hope it is just the carb and that rebuilding it fixes it for you. Theres nothing worse than spending ages on dead ends. You fel like your running around in circles for nothing. :squint:

Hereonout 12-23-2002 10:22 PM

I got a question.....when you take off the upper part of the carb, and you have the floats attached, are they supposed to be even...i mean, the same amount of movement in each float. One has the amount you would assume would be right, i do, and the second has virtually no movement. I mean VERY little. So i guess what i am asking is, are the two floats supposed to have the same amount of movement, the same range of play?

Hereonout 01-07-2003 12:44 AM

Wow now dont i feel like a little ******* idiot. its not that it has too much fuel (dumbass) it has too little, its not getting enough.....solution? pump or filter right?......what if i have no filter. or at least its not where its suppose to be, so therefore i cant find it.......help .

Hereonout 01-09-2003 01:04 AM

new fuel pump fixed all the problems. but car wont run unless choke pulled out....timing and idle mixture?

drifter 01-09-2003 08:40 AM

Seriously man, do you need like all of the 4 topics? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

haha kidding.

My pump looks like this.

http://home.iprimus.com.au/alines/rx...s/fuelpump.jpg

Racer X 01-09-2003 10:35 PM

So it runs finally???My 83 ran with the choke pulled untill the engine warms up the the choke retracts and it idles normal. You might want to try adjusting the Air/Fuel mixture.Glad to hear the beast comes to life. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/v1.gif

j9fd3s 01-09-2003 11:09 PM

i closed the other thread so if we could use this one that would be great, yeah

http://www.virtualstapler.com/office...berg_gotit.jpg

mike

Hereonout 01-11-2003 01:50 AM

LoL good, much easier to keep track of not so many. oh and just to clearify, the fuel pump fixed it for about 15-20 minutes, then i cut it off to go eat, came back and the **** had hit the fan, again....so it was temporarily fixed..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

Racer X 01-11-2003 08:23 PM

Is the pump still good or what else could it be???Is it lacking fuel again?

Hereonout 01-12-2003 10:16 PM

does it matter if a filter is before or after the pump?

j9fd3s 01-13-2003 10:49 AM

i forget how they have it, in the gsl-se's they have a filter after the pump. you may want to look at all the lines and the filter and stuff, maybe theres crap in the gas tank?

mike

Hereonout 01-13-2003 02:15 PM

nope...what about the lines....clogged maybe?....how would i find out without raking in too much in costs, lost my job Christmas eve.
