Hey all, well my motor went on me about 2 months ago. I have a 85 SE. I came across a pretty good deal on a 89 TII motor with only 36,000 miles on it. For those of you out there with this type of conversion, I would like to hear your experience with it. I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing before I commit to it. Thnx in advance

There are no cons.

ioTus 05-27-2004 02:17 AM

Oh sure there are TONS of cons man, check it out:

Pros: you have an extremely fast car that is totally fantabulous in every single way. Simply described as "Scrumtrolescent"

Cons: you MAY lose a few MPG gas mileage. Due to increased power and acceleration you will have a tendencie towards speeding, all those hondas that used to annoy you you can now DECIMATE and laugh all the way, and trust me oh GOD its tempting to race every pimped/riced car you see. Avoiding the police becomes an artform. Driving anything else suddenly becomes a mundane, boring chore that you are forced to do in between drives of your rx. You now will dedicate at least 15 minutes a day to just sitting in the car, parked in the driveway, reflecting on how much you love the car. THis time is not optional. It is mandatory for any turbo FB owner. All other hobbies / chores / relationships / occupations become secondary. All money you make will be spent on extra goodies to add to your finely tuned machine of speed.

But don't worry. There are support groups to help you get thru it. This one, here, as well as one at this website: http://www.rx7club.com and this one: http://www.mazspeed.com

Scrumtrolescent should be your title instead of Master of the rotary universe. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

There's a guy selling all the electronics for the TII to FB swap plus some directions on The Parts Trader

1gendreemer 05-27-2004 08:15 AM

Oops...wrong link.. HERE

Dysfnctnl85 05-27-2004 11:59 AM

I still don't see any cons. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

ioTus 05-27-2004 02:43 PM

I watched the movie Con Air. That has a lot of cons in it. Well, they are pretend cons, but maybe that will be good enough?? i donno!

Knock this one off if you have a programable computer. Last weekend I did some freeway driving and some boosting in there to and got 21mpg. I never got that with my old gsl-se with less than half the Hp.

rotary632 05-27-2004 08:12 PM

Yes I will have a Haltech installed...yippy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

we're getting about 25mpg out of our haltech fc's you should be able to match that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png , shoot i got 19mpg out of the 3 rotor....

drifter 05-27-2004 09:42 PM

There are no cons, its a win-win situation.

You'll have more boost than just confidence.

I'm sure if I took a road trip I'd get about 25 also. I did have a few long boost runs in that 21mpg tank https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I have it tuned pretty well for highway cruise at high 14's:1 AFR.

cool, yeah thats about right. you can go a tad leaner (15's) in the low load parts but i'm not sure you really gain any significant mileage.

rotary632 06-01-2004 09:50 AM

Update! some pics of motor being pulled. Took a long rest this weekend, will hit and finish the install by the end of the week. Has anyone attempted to install some kind of water spray injection for the top mount intercoolers? I was looking at the WRX STI's and thought it was a pretty cool idea. I'm still debating on which type i should use, front mount or stock top mount. Well anyway here are some more pics......

rotary632 06-07-2004 09:17 AM

I should have it running and tuned by Wednesday. I'm just waiting for the computer to arrive.

fcrotornut 06-07-2004 07:55 PM

how much is this all running you as far as price is concerned, i drove an fb and loed it, and now im looking into getting one, a t2 engine in a fb makes me jizz

rotary632 06-08-2004 07:31 AM

It's really not as bad as i thought. One guy gave me a quote for 14,000..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png I was able to find the 88 motor with 36,000 miles on it for 1,000 plus labor and computer it's alittle under 2,500. i f you are interested in doing this and live in Orlando, let me know and i can give the name of the guy who is doing it for me, plus where you can find alot of TII motors.

rotary632 06-08-2004 05:26 PM

I need some help......does anyone that lives in the Olrando area have a throttle cable for a TII. I can order it thru the dealer but it takes 5 - 6 days. It's the only thing missing....thnx in advance

ioTus 06-08-2004 05:33 PM

da DAYAMN dood. you're FLYING on this project.....

i'm envious!!!

Jeff20B 06-08-2004 05:43 PM

Instead of IOTUS, your license plate should say IMNVS. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Dysfnctnl85 06-08-2004 07:12 PM

Gee, I HOPE to have the engine in the car in a week!

rotary632 06-09-2004 07:15 PM

Here are some pictures of the finished project. Just need some fine tuning and https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif BLAM!!! test road it today and what a rush.....didn't even punch it all the way. Will post a video once all tuned. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/cool.png

rotary632 06-09-2004 07:17 PM

one more

ioTus 06-09-2004 08:09 PM

sweet jesus. thats the fastest TII conversion i've EVER seen..... what kind of ignition are you running? thats the stock EFI setup??

make sure you put a scoop on your hood to cool that intercooler!!

rotary632 06-09-2004 08:14 PM

Yeah stock ignition.....well the Dfsisls...something like that! I'm running a Microtech computer. Stock TII for primaries and SE injectors for secondaries.

P.S. i'm waiting for the front mount intercooler to arrive.....for now i'll drive with the hood open..... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

setzep 06-09-2004 08:30 PM

Deffinitely win the "fastest T2 swap" award https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png I guess that's what happens why you work on the car everyday instead of once a week.
