Help,

I recently found out my 1980rx7 has no thermosat. Its got a later model 13b turbo, series 4 motor with series 5 manifold.

Trying to track down the right thermostat has become a nightmare.

The thermostat i require is a 54mm diameter with a 40 mm long neck. Ive tried heaps of spare parts shops and they keep giveing me a 54mm diameter with a 33mm long neck. this is no good as it doesnt close of the primary port in the thermostat houseing. Anyone else had this problem? what should i do?

what year water pump are you using , also what year water neck is on that pump? if you know the year just go to the mazda dealer and buy the correct unit for the year. if no mazda dealer is in your area then buy one from mazdatrix!

there are 3 rotary thermostats (basically)

79-85, iron water pump housing, 8553-99-153 is the mazda part number

86-88, aluminum water pump housing, 2 bolt aluminum thermostat neck, 8AF1-15-171A, i think the 8553 t-stat works just fine

89-91 aluminum water pump housing, plastic 3 bolt thermostat cover, 8AF6-15-171, is the part number, it fits everything from 89-03. this thermostat is sealed by an oring around the edge
