Hello,

I have a few problems that have developed after I got my new engine. First of all I'm dropping from full to low on the brake fluid about once a week no matter if I drive or not. The master cylinder appears to have fluid all over it...but I can't be sure it wasn't already there. Also the "oil injector" or whatever you call it...down waaaay at the bottom of the engine on the front...has 2 oil hoses coming from the carb I think. I replaced one of the hoses I thought was leaking...but It still appears to be leaking...I think it may be the unit tho...not the hoses...oil pressure runs about 60 to 70 on the guage while the engine is running.

Another problem I'm having...which I think may be a tad more serious...has happened the last 2 times I drove my car. I start her up and get her warm...but she won't idle...at all...I drive a mile down to the highway...she dies again...really hard to get her started too...drive a few more miles and I push the clutch to the floor and she dies again going down the mountain...easier to start now tho...once I get into town I have no problem with idle at all...usually a perfect 800 and veeeeery smooth

I'm having no problems with cooling...I put a brand new radiator and water pump in right after I got her back. The carb was rebuilt by Paul Yaw...had about 500 miles on it when I got it...all I know is it has gross jets in it.

I was loosing a bit of radiator fluid when I got the car...but It appears to have stopped using so much now that I replaced the water pump...also the oil smells like it has more and more gas in it every day...perhaps I'm getting too much gas...I dunno

Any input would be appreciated

thanks

you need to clean off the brake master cylinder and see if its leaking. if its not leaking its prolly your rear wheel cylinders.

your metering pump is leaking, they do that. the new ones are about $120 N249-14-600

is the stalling the first stop or 2 after the choke pops off? my last 12a did that and i have no idea what it is.

After looking again I was looking at the wrong resivoir...it was actually the clutch fluid that I'm loosing. They replaced the clutch...throwout bearing...pressure plate...all of that stuff...when they put the new engine into my car. I'm not sure exactly whats causing it to loose the fluid...perhaps when I drive hard...I dunno

I have had some trouble out of the transmission recently...when I'm going from 4th back into 3rd it almost never wants to go without grinding a bit. Perhaps I need a new transmission...its about the only thing I havn't replaced it seems.

I pop the choke off and it doesn't want to idle...even when it says that the car is warm on the guage...I guess it is the first few stops...but after that I have no problems with idle at all...not a single freakin one

I'm about to move back to indiana in a month...so I need to get all of these problems figured out asap...cuz its about 600 miles one way

I guess I'll take my piddly wal-mart check to the autoparts store when I get it next and pick up a metering pump...stupid guys that put my engine in didn't replace hardly anything on the engine...and thats one of the many parts they said would "do"

The clutch master cylinder may be leaking. Check inside the car and see if there is fluid running down the firewall.

The car not idling that sounds like a cold start issure. My 82 does the same thing when the temp drops below 45 degrees. It will reach full operating temp and close the choke but will die unless you give it some gas. Usually takes about 15 minutes for my car to warm up enough for it to idle on its own. Just keep the gas on when you come up to a stop or something.

I would clean off the slave cylinder and then have some one pump the clutch to see where it might be leaking. When you find the problem you should probably bleed the clutch as well.

Otherwise sounds like your car is running good, I hope you are having some fun with it

I'm taking it to the shop where I got the new engine sometime this week...they have to fix whatever is wrong with it since its probably their fault anyway. I did notice some oil smoke when I had the choke on...came from the back of the engine...not good I don't think...who knows tho...

Ran with the choke...kinda...but sounded like it did when I blew a apex seal out...kinda a blub...blub...blub...blub...and it rocks the engine in the bay like crazy

but once she gets warm...nothing...perfect idle

Perhaps I have something screwed in one of the vaccum circuits of the carb...I have had lots of trouble with those stupid vaccum lines.

If I get some cash I want that webber sidedraft kit I saw on mazdatrix

screw the rats nest

The Rats nest is just that. Can't you remove it with the stock Nikki?Just run a few vaccum lines to the carb like my sidedraft setup?

I'm having the same !@#$%!^! problem with my 82! When it's warming up it doesn't want to hold an idle, and I must give it gas to prevent a stall. It also runs like crap when it is warming up. Once it has completely warmed (the choke has retracted AND I've driven for a while) it will hold a proper idle (750rpm). To make things more complicated, once it has warmed up (and is still running like crap) If I turn off the car for a couple of minutes it runs fine!!!!! I have no idea what is causing the problem. I've heard all sorts of possible fixes, but none of them have worked. Will be rebuilding the carb (not sure if that's the problem, but it needs it anyway) to see if that will help. I am also going to try re-installing the hot air hose-to-air cleaner housing from the exhaust to see if this helps. I've also heard that a leaking brake booster might cause this problem, but I don't think that's the problem in my case.

Anyway, if you are looking to remove your rat's nest (mine is already removed along with all of my emissions stuff) check out this link:
