Ok I need help, I have a 12a 84 RX7 and it idles a little rough and when you pressm on the gas fast it tries to die, if you rev it around 5500 or 6000 it starts to stutter. I have no dashlights, marker lights or tail lights and all the fuses seem good. Also my heas lights come up and come on but when you turn them off they stay up. After a while (time varies from hours to days) they go down on their own. Also the clutch seems to slip worse in higher gears than lower ones and especially if you stomp on it while cruising. When the car is cold and you stomp on it to wind it out it smokes horribly. Any ideas??? Please help

Thanks

Jim

Lights are probably the swicth. Check all of them and don't forget the dimmer switch.

I'd say you have some bad seals in the engine, but not sure there.

Oye! Crazy problems is right!

Is the 12a still pretty much factory stock? How many miles are on it?

If it's still stock, my first suggestion is to pull the anti-afterburn hose off and inspect it. This hose is notorious for making the 12a run like crap. It's located above the exhaust manifold towards the rear of the engine. Mazdatrix has a picture of the hose so checkout their site. The hose is so close to the exhaust manifold that it gets weak and splits from the heat. Also, if your carb has never been rebuilt I would suggest doing it, but check that hose out first.

the clutch? well, it sounds like it needs replacing to me......

A little smoke upon startup is actually quite normal for rotaries. Does it go away after a short while? How horrible is it? Is it white or blue and does it smell sweet?

BTW, there is a fantastic site with tons of great rotary engine FAQ's... here check it out: http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/cfaqmenu.html

Good luck!
