its not a bottle, its a propane tank. like ones on grills, except the metal is thicker, and it is almost impossible to puncture, so i'm not worried. its just as bad as having a gas tank near your exhaust.

Right on well that is good to hear. I want to see this thing when you are done.

okay. what gauge sheetmetal should i get, and what should i re-inforce it with? a couple pieces of metal (c-channel, but short channels)? we have some 1/8" or 1/4" thick iron/steel c-channel pieces, and those are strong as hell. would aluminum ones work? (i'm trying to keep the weight of my car down.
Dunno. I'm actually thinking about cutting out my GSL-SE's spare tire well to install a fuel cell, but I'm facing similar engineering problems. SCCA rules require a solid bulkhead between the fuel cell and the driver, and I'd recommend the same for your project. I figured I would build a box to hold the cell that would weld in place with a top that bolts down. I still have to ask if that would be legal. As far as what gauge metal, I'd go with a similar gauge sheetmetal to stock, but with an angle iron frame.
