Default Smokey

Good day all.

purchased a 1982 Mazda Rx-7 base model about 2 months ago. Car has 55,396 original miles. Previous owner stated they parked the car in 1997 for a bad clutch slave and carb build up. It has sat since then, I purchased the vehicle and got it running, previous owner stated he put ATF to free the engine and spin it. Car rang drove it down the street and noticed a bit of smoke also the “over heat exhaust system” light illuminated

performed the major maintenance service including new water pump and coolant. When start up the engine doesn’t really smoke but after a few minutes the car begins to smoke white and at times light blue smoke.. majority is white smoke. I haven no opened the engine as to not knowing what direction to take. The “over heat exhaust system” light is no longer present. Exhaust appears to have good flow as to it not being “clogged”.

can anyone help?

White smoke is usually coolant. With the engine running, pull the cap on the coolant overflow and see if you're getting any bubbles from the hose from the radiator. Bubbles would be combustion gasses getting past the coolant seals in the engine and will require a rebuild. No bubbles is good.

How well does it run? Have you checked the condition of the spark plugs? They can offer some info on the condition of the engine.

No bubbles present.
I did perform a maintenance on it from water pump, thermostat, coils, rotor, plugs, cap, hoses, belts, fuel pump, all new filters as well

Inspected spark plugs after engine is hot and begins to smoke. Spark plug just gets a bit black from a “carbon” build up per say but that is it.

engine has power, turns on and responses really well. Will be doing a compression check
