UniqueTII 11-04-2003 07:25 PM

And the V8 is a Ford engine, right? The 6'es are the Yamahas, aren't they?

Yep. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

You can tell, the 6 does not sound like a ford product. And the owner of the car, a frequenter of SHOtimes.com I believe told me everything about it without exaggerating too much... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png

It's like swapping in a H22 motor...but twice the weight.

Yeah, I've seen that site. It's the only decent site I've found about it.

And defprun, I decided to do this swap for several reasons, and performance being last on the list. First of all, I wanted a somewhat challenging project. Secondly, my Probe makes a very good candidate for a swap. The chassis and body are in very good shape, and the stock 2.2L that's in there now has been on a slow but steady rate of decay for the past few years. That motor needs to be ripped apart and the parts used to decorate my room. I've always liked the Yamaha SHO motor, and I think it suits the Probe nicely. They're also relatively easy to get ahold of (the other viable swap option for 1st gen Probes, which is not only a much easier swap to do, but also has higher performance gains, is the FE3: a 2.0L turbo 4-cyl found in various members of the 323 family and its Australian Ford counterparts. It was never offered in any car sold in North America and is thus expensive, and difficult to get ahold of). Thirdly, I'm building this car for my dad as a fun daily driver/to-and-from-work car, so the entire project is tailored to his tastes. And fourth, performance. This car has been a faithful servant to my family for 14 years now, and while not being much more than a mediocre car at best, it does have some sentimental value. I believe it deserves to have a little grunt for being a dependable car for almost a decade and a half. Oh yeah, and my dad's gonna be eating some of the cost of the project too, lol.

Heh, I kinda went into more detail than I thought I would.
