Anyone (or anyone know anyone that) ever swapped an SHO motor in a First gen? If so...why?

can't say that i know of anyone doing a SHO swap in a Gen I, nor can i say that i'm sorry for not knowing anyone either.



the weirdest swap i ever encountered was someone that decided to put the motor from the old Merkur XR4Ti's (i think it was the Ford Sierra everywhere else) in a Gen I ... a 2.3L Turbo 4 if i'm not mistaken.

Yeah I saw pics of that...i like the ford 2.3's but if the car isnt balanced for the engine its just this huge cast iron weight crushing the front tires...

You mean the SVO mustang motor.The SHO motor is a 3.2 V6 FWD motor found in the ford taurus.230hp stock.Nice motors for a FWD swap.

Oh I know, i was kindof making fun of the Sho motor cause this guy i know wants to put one in everything...it makes...uhhh, 200hp stock! LOL!!!



Merkur XR4ti Thunderbird Turbocoupe and Mustang SVO all have the same engine in different tuning levels. The Xr4's is pushing about 175 at 15psi, while the others are more in the 230 levels with a different VAM, chip and a top mounted intercooler.

Shoe horning that yama-ford V6 into an RX-7 wouldn't be worth the trouble, not to mention the outrageous expense. And for the record those 2.3 turbo ford engines are nothing but trouble.

Oh god, if the 2.3 is not the most unreliable goddamn engine in the world!!! It will last forever, but downtime from just stupid **** happening all the time drove me up the ******* wall.



And I heard the Yamaha engine is actually a marine engineered engine? Sounds like it with exhaust. It also makes the funniest noise when it bounces off the rev limiter

You're right, they dont seem to ever fully "let go" but they have their fair share of issues. Good buddy of mine had 2 of them, between the 2 cars we replaced 2 headgaskets, 1 turbo, 1 exhaust manifold, 3 water pumps, 4 injectors and about 3 catalytic converters. None of the jobs were all that difficult, just makes a pile of parts and the car is off the road for days or possibly weeks at a time.

Mine actually did let go, i was going up a hill on the QEW and as I was coming up over the hill i heard a slight rattling noise...once I got to the bottom, and touched the accelerator...no boost, 5psi, and almost no power. Pulled off to the side of the road, the exhaust manifold was beet red...and than a rad hose or something exploded in a huge white cloud. Towed to a shop. A month or two later I got in it, tried to start it...wouldnt start, replaced the battery...started right up. Spent about a half hour rolling it back and forth trying to get it out of the dried up mud its been sitting in...



At 5000rpm running 5psi boost running on 3 cylinders and no engine coolant for a half hour the thing never completely died!!!
