so last sunday, i went out to monroe to check out a '84 GSL-SE i saw advertised for $1500 obo, "low ballers welcome". good times, shoot an email, call him up, arrange the time, let's go look. i was fully expecting a heap.

boy was i wrong.

the nitty gritty:

214k mi, original engine (as far as the owner knows) - i won't be disappointed to have to replace this motor when it finally goes **** up.

black, SHINY paint, with few knicks and scratches

new Toyo Proxes tires on the stock wheels

red leather interior (faded bad in the back, with worn carpet all around, good seats)

100% stock

needs new battery, wheel bearing(s), and wiper motor (getting this part for free)...

motor fired right up with minimal smoke while it warmed up. took about 5 minutes to reach operating temp. i asked the owner about how it was driven, and he told me he knew a mazda mechanic who told him to drive it like he stole it, so he did.

the test drive was nice. car drove straight and smooth (with the exception of the bad wheel bearing(s)), engine pulled quite nicely all the way up to 7k, and the hydraulics all felt nice).

minimal rust. mostly on the exhaust pipe (there's a hole in it somewhere).

pics are here:

oh yeah the final price ended up being $800.

killer deal. I wouldn't mind getting a gslse sometime. I would need a deal like that to come across though. Ever since i got the turbo II for 800 bucks, i've been dry with deals.
