Im looking for the specific differences between the GSL rear end with disc brakes, and the GSL-SE rear end. The bolt pattern is different, so the axles are different. Are they interchangable though? There was a change in the diameter/spline count of the axles for 1984. Are the axles interchangable with the corresponding differential?

Black8 04-26-2005 04:10 PM

Yes the axles will interchange.....you will need the repsective calipers and brackets for what axle you intend to use....

I converted a GSL diff to GSL-SE using the GSL-SE axles, the rear backing plates(caliper brackets), rear calipers and rotors. I used an 84 GSL housing and 85 GSL-SE axles..the rest of the stuff was purchased new....

so GSLSE has different axles and brakes ?

yep....just slightly bigger, the brakes I mean. the axles are pretty much the same except for the obvious bolt pattern difference, and a different shape to the rotor mating surface.....

vosko 04-28-2005 12:03 AM

but the actual rear end is the same size

i have another question about the bolt pattern is there a way to use the 4x110 on the GSLSE rear instead of the 4x114?

That's why I switched mine out to get away from 4x110! My GSL had posi and SE had posi just wanted the 114 bolt pattern to have a better selection of wheels to chose from.

Pretty much the stuff just in reverse...but like that dude said....why? 4X110 is the devil....and lug bolts suck. The screw in studs are junk.

treceb 05-03-2005 10:47 AM

doesnt GSL only get a 3.9 vs the 4.1 from a GSLSE, also?

vosko 05-03-2005 10:55 AM

the wholepoint of me asking is a certain car has 4x110 14x6 +15 weds mesh wheels on it already, with some awesome PEPBOYS futura tires!

all this first gen stuff is really confusing lol

treceb 05-03-2005 11:07 AM

then just keep the current suspension. only difference is slightly bigger brakes and the more commomn bolt pattern. the diff could be interchanged. but then you could prolly see about sticking a kia diff.

that holds true for 84 and 85 only, i think, though.

vosko 05-03-2005 11:22 AM

and someone's old wheels have bald tires https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

True. Only -SE's get the 4.10.

vosko 05-03-2005 11:41 AM

FC rear ends are so much less confusing haha

Feds 05-03-2005 12:12 PM

What whith their magical suspension and all...

FB's are easy:

Disk brakes = good.

Drums = bad.

vosko 05-03-2005 12:28 PM

i know but i mean they have different versions and bolt patterns and brakes depending on year and model

Black8 05-03-2005 03:04 PM

Vosko...what's the deal? You have a 12a RX7 with 4X110 bolt pattern? You want to use those wheels on another Rx7, a GSL-SE?
