I'm trying to buy a radiator cap for my Rx-7. Mazdatrix has 2 caps listed that will fit a Gen I radiator: 1 for the '79-'85 12A and 1 for the GSL-SE and older Mazdas.

Mazdatrix radiator cap page

My questions are:

1 - Does anyone know what the differences are in terms of pressures?

2 - Does anyone know if there is a difference in terms of fitment to the radiator?

I'm asking because, my car is a 1984 GS, but I'm running a 13B (from an SE) and I changed the radiator, so I don't know if it's okay to buy the SE cap or not. The radiator was ordered for an '85, and I'll assume they meant 12A when they asked me.

Also ... just curious to know if there are any upgrades for radiator caps for Gen I cars.

Thanks

I would like to know this too as my SE rad is missing the cap for it.

The tall style later FB radiators can have two possible sizes. Just get the rad and see which size yours takes. They are rated to bypass at .9 bar or 13PSI.

thanks for the response Jeff20B

so, you're syaing they're both rated at 13 PSI? that's good to know. i have already ordered the one for the 12A Rx-7, hopefully it's the right one. the problem is that i don't know which one i got when i bought the radiator 2 summers ago.

hopefully my guess is correct.

Stant and stock both bypass at 13PSI or .9 bar. Since there are only two possible sizes, it's no problem finding the correct one.
