My '84 GS suddenly died on me this morning. I dont have any idea why. I'd been driving it all morning and it was doing great, no wierd sounds, no hiccups, nothin. I stop to get a drink and after I pull out it dies as I'm about to shift into 2nd gear. Just vroooooooooo-ack *silence*. Nothin popped, no grinding noises or anything. Really odd. Since then it'll turn over, but wont actually start.

I've checked the fuses, fusable links, spark plugs, distributor, replaced the fuel filter and the air filter (they needed to be changed anyway), and am currently checking the anti-afterburn solenoid (it seems to be working the way it should...)



Does anybody know whats wrong?



Any suggestions, ideas, etc...will be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Do you have fuel and spark?



Pull the leading coil wire from the distributer and hold it 1/4" from the engine.

Have a buddy crank it. if it sparks, look in the "windows" of your carb for fuel.

if not, pull the trailing coil wire and check. if spark, mark then swap the ignitors

and re-check for spark on both wires. if still no leading spark check for batt + at

the B terminal of the ignitor. if Batt + is good then it's probably the pickup coil.
