oil injectors
#1
ok so i have the 12a which injects oil through the carb. ive recently found out where the injectors are and ive noticed that when im parked on a slight incline it doesn't seem to squirt any oil and when im parked flat it still takes a little while for oil to actually start flowing out and a steady rate. This is at the engines idle speed in park which is around 1500 or so. Is this normal or do i have to adjust the oil metering pump or could i just have a clog in the line?

From haynes manual-suggest you buy one.. skimmed down copy by the way
check for leaks
check clearance between metering oilpump lever and washer is 0-0.04 in/0-1.0mm
warm up engine fully
disconect the two metering oil hoses at carb(try not to break)
says fill small bottle of oil to manually squirt in carb
get a graduated beaker or measuring cup to check from oil hoses
start engine and set rpm to 2k
run engine for 6 min(be sure to add oil manually)
after 6 min oil in measuring cup should be 2.0-2.5cc
If not try to adjust pump, as far as idle speed it should be around 750rpm stock, unless your 12a is heavily ported, mine slightly modified is 800
check for leaks

I do have the hanes manual but i was wondering if there was an easier diagnosis besides taking those apart and doing that cuz it would require having someone hold the gas at 2k and another person which would probably be me measuring the oil output and simultaneously putting the same amount of oil into the carb. when you say leaks do you mean leaks in the oil metering pump lines or just leaks anywhere? my drainplug leaks i may need a new one and also my oil pressure sender leaks according to the shop that i took it to. The hanes manual i have has everything for 79-85 and comes with a whole chapter on revisions to the 84-85 models both 12a and 13b

oh and i forgot to mention that it would be a problem to do cuz i usually don't have people around to help me with it and when there are people around to help i have other things to do like go to work lol.

Well as far as an easy diagnosis more then likely your omp is shot, asides from testing it you could just rebuild it or delete it and run some 2cyl oil in your gas, im suprised no one else has commented, have you tried to search the forums you might be able to find something i overlooked, my omp hasn't worked since i got the car so i just premix, but i have heard that the 2cyl oil can gum up the stock pump and lines/venturis etc but not 100% sure on that i personally havn't had any issues yet that i know of...

Can I even find an omp to buy anymore? And if I run 2 cycle will it smoke like a 2 stroke? I've read about doing it but i'm guessing it would require either mixing it in a separate container or add a gallon then add the oil but I fill up in jersey cuz it's 40-50 cents cheaper per gallon than in NY and they don't let u pump your own gas. I guess when I have time I'll check the clearance of that bolt and when I have another person I'll do the metering test. I also gotta find a measuring container in cc's cuz I only have mL as far as I know. And there's one more question I have about the oil injection. I know there's one injector for each primary barrel but does each barrel go to a separate rotar or does each barrel feed both rotars cuz I've found that one line will start injecting before the other. The slow one you could actually see it creep up the tube. It'll gain some ground and then stop for a little bit then move some more. My omp is definitely shot isn't it?
