Nikki trouble... HELP!

I have a 1982 GSL with the stock Nikki, air cleaner housing, and all. the only thing i have done is dropped in a K&N air filter. My car has been idling rough for a while, but seems to be getting steadily worse. I though it might be a vacuum leak, so i got some starting fluid to mist into the engine compartment. Nothing happened, to i sprayed some into the carb directly. This killed my engine, which was exactly OPPOSITE of the expected result. I have already replaced cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. also, my powere windows suck because they are slow, and the driver side refuses to stay in the rail, and the passenger side is sticking. I have used some silicone spray on the rails and regulator gear, but i can rock the DS side to side. any ideas? Also, my idle is currently a sickening, shuddering 500 rpm.

you tried playing with the idle mixture screw? idle speed screw doesnt normally need to be touched.



if the window doesnt work after being cleaned and regreased, then the regulator is bad, you can get the power window regulator without the motor, fa02-58-590 for the right and fa02-59-590 for the left, they are around $100 new. with the motor is like $400

take off the door panel and you may see that one of the track rails may be loose (that was how mine was and was easiy fixed by just getting it back into place and lubing it up). I didn't have my nikki too long on my 7 so I am sorry I can't help you there. The rx7club I believe had a good nikki troubleshooting guide.

Have you removed the rats nest and plugged all unnecessary vacuum lines?

I have a stock Nikki and it tends to run pretty rough sometimes. Replacing the carb spacer, plugging up vacuum lines and eliminating the rats nest and air pump have helped a lot with it. You also need to play with the idle mixture screw like stated above.

Well, looks like you have some basic tune-up to do. First do check for vacuum leaks though, and eliminate that possibility. Next I'd check timing. Retarded timing will decrease idle speed and make it rough. Then idle mixture and idle screws might need adjustment. Final idle speed after all has been adjusted should be 750 rpm.

If you spray too much starting fluid in it can pre-ignite before your engine finishes its compression cycle and stop your engine in its tracks - really not good. I'll bet this is what you did, but with any luck you didn't damage anything.

Check the bottom elbow of this hose. It sits right above the exhaust, and has a habbit of cracking. It could fix your whole problem.
