New To Rotary Engines

I am new to the rotary engines and i was wonderin about buyin an 1983 rx7

but it has a problem and i was wonderin if it wasa costly one. the guy i

want to buy it from says it has water leaking into the front chamber.

I would like somebody to tell me what this is please and help me on what it means.

Sounds to me like you'd need at least a rebuild. So, depending on the depth of your pockets, I'd say it's kinda expensive.

Yep, what your seller is describing is the rotary engine equivalent of a blown head gasket....only in the rotary, you have to tear down the whole engine to replace the part. Full gasket/seal rebuild kits run around $900. Check prices from atkinsrotary.com or rotaryaviation.com. Sometimes Ebay has stuff out there.

If all it needed were the water seals it wouldn't be that expensive. Granted you do the work yourself that is. 12As are cheaper to rebuild anyway.

Or just look for a good used motor from a Pull-A-Part yard.



If you really want to tackle rebuilding one yourself, invest in a manual and ask around. If the apex seals are good you can rebuild for under $100. If you need new apex seals, add another $240.
