hey guys, this is my first rotary, and id like to just say why didnt i join earlier? its a sweet car. going & leaving hondas & vw to mazda is a good upgrade. anyways i have some concerns with this car before i get all mods going first.

1. RAIN SUCKS... today i purchased it & it seemed that the window would stay fogged up & wouldnt go away when i had the defroster on. how can i cure this?

2. weird noise when starting... ill end up hearing some weird noise when turning over. is this normal?

3. best way to clean the engine?

welcome, is the carpet wet, excess moister inside the car will slow down the clearing of the windshield, try some of that fog cleaner stuff, need more info on where the noise is when starting, may be starter, distributer rotor,,,, dont know of good way to clean engine, i dont trust hi-pressure washers, just do a little at a time with carb cleaner or degresser and paint brush...

I had a problem with fog in my Buick and the windsheild would always fog up and I couldn't get rid of it.. Found out I had a leak in my windsheild and whoever installed it missed a spot with the goopy black crap... (it's messy stuff) anyhow check for leaks in door seals and windshield? Might help.

Welcome to the Rotary club!!!! Learn what you can about the rotary, cause if you arent familuar with the rotary "quircks" they can be a bitch. once you get the hang of it youll never go back to a ****-ton engine...

Best way to clean your engine is to get about three pressure-pack cans of degreaser (y'know like spray-cans) and just spray the f**k out of it, under it, in it, over it, avoid putting any in your alternator though (overspray is ok). Then leave it for about 5-10 minutes, then get your garden hose and hose it all off. Do it on the road if you can, so all the grease and oil and sh*t just flows into the drain. The degreaser spray cans shouldn't cost you more than AUS$2.99 and will clean your engine without damaging it. After hosing it down, let it dry a while before you start your car up, or get some WD (water dispersant) spray onto your main electrical contacts, etc before cranking her over.

I don,t know if your noise is the same as what I had or not. Mine happenedonly after the motor was warm and sounded like the starter was squealing. It turned out to be the Hot Start Assist box on the driver side (USA) shock tower, I just disconnected the wire connector and no more noise. Hope this helps.

My old 626 did this as well. Must be "Mazda engineering". The solution is to run the A/C (if you have it), even if you're heating. The A/C function dries the air before blowing it on the windshield.

I'm sure once you get the bugs worked out you'll love your car. Keep reading this and other forums.
