Well guys it has been a while since I've come back on this forum as I usually spend most of my time on the rx7club.com Alot has happened since last time I was here when I had my 84 GSL, with its RB holley and SDJ headers. I'm now back with a newer freshly painted body, 85 GSL now, the color as mentioned is an actual McLaren SLR Green, the engine bay powder coated parts are Dormant Green, the IRTB's are from Fuji racing, my SDJ headers, now I also have a carputer in there with a touchscreen, megasquirt, redid all the wiring and cut out what ever was not needed down to the last inch, painted the interior from brown to tan, EGT kit, ReSpeed Rack and Pinion kit with quick ratio, and tons more. Enjoy the stuff guys and let me know what you think https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif, it almost done I just got the engine somewhat in running condition yesterday but the interior is not fully in yet.

Real Nice Setup! You dont see much FB owners on this website.
|
True, but it looks like you have a great setup. Great job
|
Well here she is a little bit more finished up along with some videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwkvD27nLG8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-90_FHXL_AQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA94iNysklU |
you're a brave man to have all that tan in there, car looks great though. hows it drive?
|
no fans ?
|
That's pretty sweet but not diggin the tan. Brown would've been a better choice IMO
|
Thanks guys! There is an electric fan installed, it just wansn't installed when I took the pictures, but its in one of the videos. The tan isn't that bad to clean up actually. I've got some sort of die transfer on the passenger side seat thouhg. I knew that I should of treated it before I let anyone in, damn passengers lol. I had a brown interior but I wanted a better contrast and something that isn't so hot in the summer and I've always liked tan.
As for the driving experience it has been pretty good. Still need to work out a few flat spots in the lower range, but at WOT its seems pretty perfect:D. And also as far as gas milleage goes, it doesn't seems pretty darn good (If I don't get too throttle happy https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...). But for example on the highway i can easily average about 30mpg ... ah the joy's of having a computer to lean things out on the go lol. But then if I get happy at every corner, I'll be around 8mpg lol. I still need to get some incar videos or something. Or maybe I can get some video from on the track next weekend. Its been a great experience restoring this beast, and upgrading it. This is my first car, and having no previoude experience with cars before to going to something like this, I can only thank all the forums online for all their great support for that. So thank you guys https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif |

That set up is crazy. I am interested in seeing some in-car footage. |
How mutch horse power do you suppose it has? is it ported and have u run it. Nice job

The Engine is StreetPorted with a fairly large SP. 2 years ago with my holley 465, I managed a 147.3 rwhp and 124.2 ft-lb. I did dyno tune it a little while, but it was on a different dyno type and the dyno wasn't calibrated properly. But i'll let you know what the numbers are once I get on the good dyno again |
thats your first car? i'm impressed!
not that this is very accurate, but our ITS/PS1 FC did 170ish hp and about 6mpg, so with 8mpg, you're in the ball park |

Ya i'm the kinda guy that like to challenge himself alot so something like this was perfect for me. My only problem now, I'm HOOKED! lol ... At first it was just to learn the basics on the cars, but as you can tell I kinda took that a few levels higher. This sunday I'm doing a lapping & time attack for the first time and we'll see how that goes. I'm not expecting any impressive times being first time doing this kind of thing, but should be a great experience to finally test what the car (and poor driver) can do. The last things that I'm doing before going to the race include Hawk HP+ pads, Carbon kevlar clutch, Some new falken 912 rubber, I know they're not really meant for the track but beats what I have on right now. I'm getting some better rims later on for I didn't want to spend too much on rubber right now. I want to get 15x7 for my car with some 205 rubber probably. The Falken that I bought are 195's should be a good start though with something that has a bit better sidewall. Sam |
hey im looking to megasquirt my 12a.
i think i might want to keep the stock distrubutor set-up. mainly for simplicity. do they make a fuel only one? i havnt really researched them yet. |

And will also result in a more powerful spark. Its only 11 more wires (4 for the CAS), (2 for leading,), and (5 for trailing) |
Damn that looks good. How did you do the color change on the dash and shifter/boot? I've used the Duplicolor dash paint to convert a maroon dash to a nice flat black... but that looks good, like the Miata's.
Looks a lot better than my first car... it still has one tan door and the paintjob I did almost 8 years ago is starting to look pretty shitty! Nice work. |
The car is amazing I got to see it on the weekend.
Keep taking it to the track man you should be eating up some of these guys! |

Sam i kinda like driving on crappy tires, at least to start out. theres a steep enough learning curve being on the track for the first time with other cars, that your setup doesnt really matter too much. |

Well finally got the results in for my time attack ... nothing impressive but it was all my fault for bad driving and bad tire setup on the track. Actually i was slowest of the day lol ... but had fun none the less and I should be more prepared for next time. I'll be signing up for the August event. |

So a few updates ... Got to install my Racing beat lightweight flywheel and had to rebuild the engine (Thanks to shitty injectors from Venom ... one was abotu 615cc and the other 815cc they're suppose to be 720cc ... so detonated on the one side and blew the seals!) Well a rebuilt later with a tad bit more porting and some more tuning, and Re-speed front sway barm and re installing the rear, i'm now making 160ish whp, and the car handles alot better on the track. I do need to make a fuel surge tank i think though. The tight corners are high speed the engine bogs down from lack of fuel .. almost caused an accident the one time around because of it ... Also kinda started doing some stuff for the supercharger ... we'll see how that goes. should be more fun on the track next year thats for sure https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif |
good to hear it's running great again. i want vides of it on the track.
|
don't have much ... i was hoping on getting the one video off the guy that was filming from inside my car .. but lost touch with him ... Anyways here's a couple:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-Vus-f6ugI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6nx8_E8gOA In that second video in the rain ... that was some scary stuff .. i really had to slow down quite a bit expecially at that corner before the stretchaway ... lots of standing water in there and would keep on sliding ... and that honda thought it could catch up to me ...pshh ... never had a chance lol. I actually came in second in class in the rain somehow behind an s2000 was happy about that https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif |
so I started the next phase of my car, more suspension and wheel stuff:
T2 brakes all around on my FB Moser axles in the back Camber plate Heavy Duty Retainer Plate Full brake line kit for the calipers Triangulated strut bar some bigger rear end gearing probably 4.3 or something like that. Custom rims And some toyo proxies r888 still deciding on rim size. But with that rubber and some camber dialed in, I might have a chance to beat Jim at the track this year. I was hoping to have the supercharger in this year, but I think all the above stuff is more important first to try to improve my own skills first before i go on adding more power. And i have to still fix that fuel starvation issue on left hand turns. Everything has been bought except for the last 3 things on that list, but should have the other stuff in a couple of months. Oh and maybe i'll go for another tunning session to see if i can gain a few more ponies here and there |

I've already got rotors, calipers have been fully rebuilt, hubs are on hand and getting cleaned up and tossing new bearings and seals in there, new axles seals also. Should be nice and fresh bearings all around. I'll post pictures sometime this week |
sweet! does this make you 5 lug? or 4x114?
i know ive mentioned this before, but the drivers really like the r888's, they make a good rain tire too. they even wear well, we bought 12 tires for the 25 hours of thunderhill, and we've managed to wear 1 out. and put a hole in another... the drivers also liked the performance friction brake pads, but thats $$$$$$ |

I got the parts and my tax return in the same day ... it was a good day. Ya I was considering the BFG R1 too as i can get good deals on those and are supposebly faster in the dry, but as soon as i get a damp or rainy day, I'm done for it. What name brand pad are you guys running? I ran the HP+ all last year and was happy with those geting no fade or anything. I was considering the same this time around, but the pads will cost about 190$CA for all around. If the ones you speak of are about the same price, then i might consider them |
we were running performance friction, they actually made us several sets in the nascar compound (i think, #06).
they do make pads for FD/FC, i think they are like $300 a set though |
Ah .. didn't realize the name was performance friction. 300$ isn't as bad as I thought so i might take a look at their site to see. How do you compare them to the HP+ if you ever had those on the car or something like those pads.

hp+ is like 20 year old crap! the PFC pads are easier on the rotors, they modulate better, grip better, don't fade, in a sprint type situation they should last forever, enduro setup they wear faster, but should be comparable to hp+. a sprint race is like full speed for 15 minutes, our enduro is 90% speed for 25 hours. street would be more like a sprint |
well finally got my sturt tower bar installed, and had some time to go out and measure wheel backspacing. Looks like I'll be running 4.4" backspace inthe front now and about 4.9" in the rear.
|
interesting the backspace is different front and rear, you have rood for 15x8 up front?
nice strut bar BTW |

nice strut bar BTW Ya actually i even did some more homework and i can get a backspacing of 5.8" for an even better fitment in the rear. As for the front I think that I can afford another .1" to bring me to 4.5" and an offset of 0 now, but ya the wheels will stick out of the fender a bit (Probably around 1/2- 3/4") |
if you have some negative camber it tucks the tire in at the top, among other things.
this is FC but the local OG guys were stunned when i put 17x8's with 235's on the front of a stock fender FC, they told me you couldn't fit more than a 215 up there! so it was a good thing they told me that AFTER i did it |

I know I would be fine with the stock brakes but under heavy braking with the T2 ... i'm not 100% sure. |

What all do you have done to your car? I just got some 15x7 explorer rims for the mean time till I get the custom rims. I painted them in a graphite color. I've attached some before and after pictures. |
